McKay tae Soapies?

Not everyone's flavour, but that would be disappointing.

Think he's done well. Majority of his signings have been good, got rid of alot of the crap as quickly as he could. Stuck by Sir Dave when it was right to do so.

We could offer them Marshall instead? He's bound to have learnt something by now.

He might go with him

I reckon Steve Clarke is a stick on for the stickies. Still might take McKay with him though

I don't think it would be the managers job. Aren't they restructuring the whole shabang? Think it would be backroom boardroom stuff.

"Smellies", shurely?
Right-back or no, he prefers kicking with the other foot.
I think he'll stick to being Victor Meldrew in private, with the occasional pundit appearance... Assuming he disnae fancy defending the World Cup in 2030.

Who’s McKay? Are we talking about Malkay Mackay here? If so, he’s done a decent job organising the football department but also think he’s a patter merchant and not as good as he thinks he is.

Imagine we could leave the football department operations to David Marshall and Garvan Stewart and be just fine.

Would be disappointing to lose him if true as he has done an excellent job in his two years at the club, restructuring the football department and actually getting it to function efficiently in a professional manner as a top scottish club should.

Recruitment has been much improved for the first team and he has overseen the under 18's and the ladies team both winning their respective leagues last season.

Sporting Directors generally don't stay for more than two or three years at a club, and he is a Celtic man and played for them.

Done a very good job, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a bigger club come in for him due to the way he has done the job at Hibs.

I did mean smellies. Let’s blame autocorrect 😜

My immediate reaction is, take him.

But only if we have a decent replacement lined up. Like, decent.

David Marshall and Garvan Stewart

Garvan is just an analyst/scout.
David Marshall has nowhere near the experience required to run a full footballing operation.

I'd be very disappointed if we just went with those 2.

Marshall has a masters degree in football directorship or whatever if it’s called, plus has been doing his apprenticeship for the last two years, seems reasonable experience to me - and it clearly seems to be strategy that he eventually takes over from Mackay. That’s not even factoring in his playing career and contacts he’ll have.

Does the “football operation” at a club our size really need so many people? Chief exec, sporting director, head of recruitment, technical performance manager, academy director, head coach….. it’s some financial outlay, and overly complicated in my opinion.

Nope, we probably don't need all of that, but Ian Gordon's obviously understood he doesn't know how to run the show.
I like that we've split the commercial and footballing operations though.

Tbf I forgot about the degree, still a massive backwards step from someone with Malkys experience and understanding of every level at a football club. Plus all the contacts and negotiating experience. I know you mentioned contacts, but his playing career doesn't translate into dealings with agents and other executives in the same way Malkys near 2 decades of managerial and executive experience. Squad building etc.

Guess we'll see. You're probably right that's the planned move though.

I would agree that we have too many cooks in the football department.
RE Dan Barnett as CEO, even though his remit is ostensibly the commercial side...as CEO he will basically run the whole club on a day to day basis on behalf of the Gordons.
