For such a pinko, I do love my tech, just got the new iPhone6 the day and it's mindbogglingly fast. Lovely. Had a sniff about the net and all the tests I've seen or read have confirmed this, knocking the HTC M8 off the top and shitting on the Galaxy S5.

Yet again, the only downside (I can see) in Apple products is the prohibitive cost. But, they've proven to me time and time again that whatever the product, they make quality, long lasting pieces of technology that, over time, are worth the extra initial cost.

I have a G4 Powerbook my son now uses, bought in 2003, still going strong. A 2009 iMac, same. My 4S (new Aug 2011) I just upgraded only started struggling when I whapped iOS8 on it last week. MBP, 2010, fast as fuck.

In that time, my non apple-twat pals have been through hundreds of desktops, laptops, phones.

To me, it's pretty conclusive; spending a wee bit (OK, a fair bit) extra up front pays off.

Thoughts?

I reckon most Iphone owners wouldn't it admit it even if the thing blew up or stopped working anyway
Pity Woody's banned :giggle:

That's who I was thinking about when I posted that up there D ^^^
And my iPhone 2 is still going strong

I'm sure I had 1 of them, was it a flip phone?

I've got a Motorola Startac that's still going strong , things will if you look after them

Fukk sake D. I used to sell these years ago and they had a life expectancy of about a week.

My old man recently got a smartphone, Sony Ericsson E or something similar.

Anyway, before we went to the speedway recently he says to me "Can you have a look at this? The battery's fucking pish".

So I have a look at it and sure enough, the battery is at 73%, so I check his brightness and other non-essential apps he might be running on it. Nothig was amiss so I asked him when he last charged it and he said "Yesterday morning".

I've long given up trying to argue the case for or against the different phones.

I used to think it was a case of the high end phones were all similar and it's mostly about personal taste. Pretty nuch the same if you compare down the scale as well.

I was however surprised when reading comparisons between the new iPhone and Samsung and I've read a few.

http://www.knowyourmobile.com/apple/apple-iphone-6/21395/iphone-6-vs-samsung-galaxy-s5-which-best-you

Goodness knows what you iTypes would be like with a really fast phone, a decent screen to look at that doesn't need charging all the time.

I could mention the cameras too but, IMO, phone cameras are still a bit gimmicky and whatever pixel size they claim still ain't as good as a similar proper camera. But then a pish 16mp is still probably better than a pish 8mp?

It seems the iPhone folk will be on at least the 10 before they catch up with the Galaxy S4!!!

Good luck with your phone though I really hope you enjoy it, no I really do, I appreciate how folk become attached. When the time comes though I'll let you borrow my Samsung to call Apple customer services :giggle:

Megapixels mean fuck all. If your hardware i.e. sensor is pish, you could have 48megapixels and the photos will still be pish. Also, any camera, be it on a phone or otherwise, can make good pictures. All you need is light. Forza will attest to this, being into his DSLRs too.

I find it funny when apple gear is brought up, it instantly baits folk into a defensive attack regarding why their tech is better or why apple tech is almost archaic. Something I just don't get. It just deteriorates into a tedious pissing contest rather than a constructive evaluation or description of use cases.

"Ma computer crashed wi itunes, lost aw ma files, didnae have a back up, apple are ****s"
"Ma screen's bigger than your screen, bigger is better"

What I was trying to convey is the quality & longevity of the apple shit. Aesthetics are a massive part of it. But, functionally their tech consistently works a fuckin' treat and continues to do so long after, iteration after iteration of competitors 'not quite really ready for market' tech.

Forza touched on one major aspect though; if you look after stuff, it generally lasts. I mind being tech support for Motorola and their Star-tac was massive at the time (clamshell design is or was the industry term for the flip style), we just saw the bad side though, all the faulty ones but there were millions of happy customers, I think it was one of if not the best phone on the market at the time. And, to a phone, the faults were 85% user bawbaggery.

Apple stuff works extremely well, and particulalrly well within the apple eco system with other related tech. That's one of the major reasons it works for me so well, it's designed and tested in that environment.

As a user, nothing comes close to apple in my experience.

Comparing hardware specs out of context is relatively meaningless in any technology setting and always has been.

The good thing about phone cameras is the fact you're always likely to have it with you incase you see something good ie the recent jewellery raid in Glasgow. My ambition is to take a really newsworthy picture at some point

That happened to me in London a few years ago, in Richmond, two guys steamed up on a moped, one got off, panned in the jeweler shop window with a mash hammer, rammed all the loot in a bag, got on the moped and zoomed off. All within 10 foot of me and within 30 seconds.

An old guy starts shouting "Hey, someone, someone stop them!" And I'm thinking "Fuck off, I've got kids, not even vaguely thinking about getting involed in this shit"

Which, is also the reason I don't have a photo of said event. Why put yourself at risk? I actually had a decent camera with me, not a DSLR but a good Lumix, LX5. But no way was I getting my pus wanted by these bams.

Perhaps with a zoom lens...

Thanks. I just wondered if you had to have the most up to date iPhone that's out but that's clearly not the case.I'm past the stage of wanting the newest phone out. I've never been one for Apple products, purely because of the hype and the price. My phone makes calls, sends and receives text messages and has internet access. That's good enough for me. :)

Yeah, as you can see from my purchase history, I don't really care to have the latest constantly, I always just wait until it's pretty much necessary for me to upgrade. Then I feel kinda justified in getting the current/latest model.

The price is excessive. But the quality is too, in my experience. That's why I'm willing to pay more. I use Macs at home too so everything works really well. A macMini as a media server, an imac as my main computer for photography and producing / recording music and a Macbookpro for mobile music/photography situations & holidays, airport extreme as a network hub and media server back up.

All run splendidly, can't fault a single point in the network of Apply-pish that is my hoose.

I mind each an every time I got a new phone (pre-iphone), I'd have an absolute nightmare porting information, contacts, texts, settings to the point where often I'd have to just acceot defeat and lose the data. Not any more, every time I plug my iphone into my imac, itunes launches and backs everything up and when ever I get a new iphone, I can chose to use the latest back up or not. If I do chose to, it works seamlessly.

Possibly no longer groundbreaking, I don't know re android. I know it's just spot on every time, data now spanning back 5 years and I'm a feckin' hoarder so it's a dream for me ;)

Have you checked to see if it bends?

Android all the way although my HTC one x is dying a painfully slow death.

That's the 6+ that did that. And, I saw the stats the other day, about 9 folk have complained of bent iphone 6. Which suggests it was purely fannies trying to generate add revenue on their crappy youtube channels. Either way, it's a non issue.

Yeah, they all slow down eventually. My 4S just started crawling between actions as soon as iOs8 was installed. Gonna try and see if I can downgrade back down to ios7 as it was fine under that. Clear it all down and give it a fair chance.

See I can understand you buying all this as you obviously makes use of all that these things do , i laugh at those that buy an iphone but "only phone and text" when you ask them about the functions . Status symbol for them

I reckon my HTC One would bend if i wasn't careful , why do folk keep phones in their back pockets ? Any phone would bend if i sat on it lol

Totally. I was just flabbergasted by the airprint thing between my new Canon printer and my iphone; you can just print wirelessly direct from the phone. Cool as fuck. That's not restricted to apple, of course. It was just an example of how useful using these things full spectrum of facilities is. It made my latest work contract so much easier than it has been in the past, scanning, printing, emailing across my home network wirelessly. It was done in an hour whereas normally I'd be at it for a feckin' day!

Indeed. I'm not sure anyone really does have such a mental disconnect between cause and effect. I reckon the bent phones were stunts or drunken bawbaggery. I have a mate that constantly destroys phones, some folk are just like that. I told him to get that JCB phone. He's so far refused...

This is ma phone...

Gen up! I do get some funny looks when I use it in public haha Whaegiesafunk? No me, I'll tell ye that! :glassraise:

The Nokia 6230i was probably my favourite pre iPhone phone. The N95 was barry too. In fact, I loved all the Nokias I had, they seemed better than the rest. I had one Sony Ericsson and it was pretty good. That was my last 'not really that smart' phone. If I didn't use my phone for loads of other pish, I'd just have a normal Nokia. But I do use my phone for loads of other data based pish and it makes life far easier to have one that works well at that and in sync with all my other pish.

I'll tell you one thing that is pish about my iphone; I got a 5c in April, it's only got 8gb if capacity. I can't update to iOS 8 because to have available memory to do so would mean pretty much emptying the phone of all aps, photos, music etc.... even then I don't think that is enough. I love the phone, and this is my second iphone but it sure I scrap when you can't install the updates, because they obviously don't tell you that when you buy it and I'll miss any subsequent updates for the next 18 months!

I have had a few issues with ios8, is it possible to downgrade back down to ios7?

I bought a Sony Xperia Z3 compact last week, best battery life i've seen on a phone....

Aye, that's nippy. That's the main thing that's not great about them; memory.

My last two iPhones, I've went for the lowest capacity, 16GB, and it generally does me because I keep all my music on my 160GB iPod. But, I decided this time to go for full capacity, 128GB. Will avoid nippy stuff like you mention above. Even 32GB would see you fine.

Are you stuck with buying a huge iphone or does it have the capacity for a SD Card? My Samsung S4 Mini is 8gb (I think) but I stuck a 32gb SD card in for an extra twenty quid.

I'm looking into it. I'll tell you if I find good info / tutorial. I think my 4S is better on ios7. 8 is just a step too far for the A7 chip.

You are stuck paying over the odds for the phone due to there being no sd card slot.

That's a twat move by apple. Really ****ish.

Sweet. This phone has had two days use now and only at 55%. But then, it's a brand new battery, efficient processor chip, 64 bit shit going on, the tasks it's being asked to do are essentially below it until the app developers catch up.

Not been playing games but have watched a few videos, played music, phone calls, texts, emails etc.

I had the same issue when trying to update via wifi.

The way round this is to update via iTunes on your PC using the USB. This allows for the new software to be stored on the PC while the existing software is removed. It then replaces it with the new software from the PC.

Generally, I think all latest high-end smartphones are as good as each other. I only went for an iPhone after I got an iPad so I had commonality across both devices.

Was more than happy with Android previously.
