"Did you find what you were looking for?"

"No... no. But I found something I thought I'd lost."

"Faith to keep looking."

Hibs head to Paisley on Wednesday night, but you'd be forgiven for thinking we didn't have a game before the weekend as already Hibs media is being filled with content about the weekends game. Do we never learn?

Sunday was a welcome performance against a very good team in diabolical conditions. What will it mean in the longer term? Not sure. I'm not sure the conditions will be much better on Wednesday either, but hopefully we can build on Sunday and put in another good performance against a decent team. I did think we are more suited to playing away up until Dundee United - we can't afford another day like that.

St Mirren currently stand 6th in the league, and are probably reasonably happy with how their season has gone. They ended a 5 game losing streak on Saturday by ending Dundee at home. They have been patchy at the Smisa though - losing to Dundee United, Celtic and Dunfermline. Hibs been the expert on patch home form, obviously.

Ramos, Phillips and Gogic are their players to watch out for.

What of Hibs though, what can we expect? Well. I think we can see the formation and players that Marink favours. The big unknown though is who might be rested, and who might get an opportunity ahead of the weekend.

With that in mind, I think we might see this:

There are some things there that are taking shape, and there are glaring issues to fix.

Joe Newell has probably played himself into the middle of midfield after Sunday, but the lack of a right back option probably saves Mulligan from being dropped and Passlack playing further forward.

On the left, I think I'd play Beardy if he is fit, but I'm fairly sure he wont get the nod.

So that's my view, I'm much more interested in hearing yours

I'd swap McGrath and Klidje positions and probably drop Mulligan but as you say he will probably keep him in to help shore up the right side.

Is Obita fit ? i'd have him in the back 4
Don't know, have Hibs provided an update? If so it might see us go back to a 3? Was just looking up his injury history there and found out that he had anterior cruciate in 2017, out for the season. He's done well to come back from that and stay relatively fit and available tbh.

We’re toiling for players to play in their best positions due to injuries and form, just what we need going into a crucial mid-week game and a cup semi final…

I think Matondo should be getting a start, only way to get him match sharp and see what he’s got to really offer.

Elding has scored two from two starting as a striker, so that’s a real positive. I really don’t like the Kerr / Ivezic pairing at the back, so may be time to covert that world class striker Grant Hanley into an emergency centre back.

I hate square pegs in round holes but given the lack of options I’d actually stick Kerr at right back (because I don’t think we have anyone else there) to provide a bit of cover and play Passlack further forward, Mulligan needs to sit a game out.

Team - 4231:
Sallinger
Kerr Hanley Ivezic Mayor
Chaiwa Newell
Passlack McGrath Matondo
Elding

Where's Megwa now you mention right backs?

Read some commentary today about Passlack and I think a lot of it missing the point.

The problem isn’t him getting forward, modern football is all about overloads and getting your full backs into attacking positions. Thats kind of why 3 at the back often works as it’s easier to defend the gaps and the space with the extra defender.

The issue down our right is Passlack isn’t a great defender and how we cover the gaps when he’s getting back from his foray forwards. If you play 4 at the back then it becomes the defensive mids job to cover the gaps down the flanks. With 3 you have an extra centre back to get across.

None of this is new, and SDG chose one way to do it, whereas we’re now trying something different.

Both can work both can fail, it’s largely about players being switched on and carrying out instructions.

The easy fix might be Mulligan at right back with Passlack in front.
Was just musing about this when I read your post @Zab

I hated him there last season. But this is a good shout.
So here's my suggestion now.

I don't think it happens though. But I've been thinking about 2 up top today and I think Mulligan at right back is what makes it make sense. Attacking midfield just isn't happening for us so let's drop it.

Sallinger
Mulligan Hanley Ivezic Mayor
Newell Chaiwa
Passlack -----------------------McGrath
Klidje Elding

If we're going down both wings then we need to have 2 or 3 in the box. It's not happening with the attacking midfielder it's usually the opposite wing and Elding in the box.
This way if the ball is with Passlack, you've got Klidje, Elding and McGrath there.
And the opposite, with Passlack already proving he can score goals at the back post.

We can still play his football, just with something a little different going on up top.

We are really stretched for numbers.
I think it will be pretty much the same team as the Celtic game.
We need a win desperately.

2-1 Hibs.

I’m still fucked up ( steroids and new antibiotics rather than just my normal state of mind) so I won’t be at St Midden. 1875 RIP would have dragged me there on a stretcher, and I hope he would have “told me so”.
I’ll be fit for Bounce Tour though, and wishing for a fitting result there for my old pal.

The play against Celtic was different, seems players are being expected to move into a space when their teammate has the ball. No rocket science eh? I think they did find it physically demanding though.

Every game we discuss formations and player choices for each position then during and after the game it's "he's shite" "he cannae pick a pass" "what the fuck was the defence doing there" etc etc.
I feel really sorry for Reedijke having to get a tune from the threadbare options available to him.
Couple of things already been said which I agree with. Elding up front and Matondo to start. I've been disappointed in Matondo but I want to see him start a game to see if he can shine a bit more. If that means Klidje moves position that's a positive. As for the rest I've nae idea but further, continual improvement would be good. Hopefully tonight it all clicks. A confidence boosting win is just what we need before the semi.

I'd like to see Nicky Cadden play where Klidge has been and Klidge attempt to get on the end of some of his balls...
