Well I'm home from my work jaunt to Aberdeen, which was largely grey, wet and miserable. Weather wasn't much better.

The games they keep on coming though, and we have potentially a tough fixture coming up against the reigning league champions. Not really the game to be looking for a break and change in fortune, but the football fans faith is a strange old thing.

Celtc, our bastard offspring, are a bit of an enigma this season under the aging managership of Martin O' Neil. They absolutely battered our noisy neighbours last week, but I think a team that continues going toe to toe with Celtc when already 2 down in 10 minutes is asking for trouble? Their results have been patchy this season though, meekly rolling over to Rangers twice and lying 35 of 36 in Europa League standing with no points and only one home game to come. They looked woefully naive themselves last night.

It is all about the Hibs though, and what we can expect in terms of line up and formation.

I don't expect many changes - for one we have so little room for manoeuvre with our injuries. I expect we'll continue with the adapted system too.

This is what I expect:

I think I'd prefer to start Passlack higher, but without another right back option we don't have a choice I think. Can't wait for Rocky to come back - I think he'd improve the team. It's a bit early to be throwing Matondo in, but I don't think the manager fancies Beardy. At least this way there's an option for Cadden to come on for Matondo.

Anyways, as always that's my thoughts - what's yours?

Hibernian Forever!

In hope more than any remote expectation, this is the type of game where things can just turn.

The first two performances under Reedijk were very poor, the squad doesn’t look suited to what he wants to do… Kerr and Ivezic are brutal on the ball, asking Mulligan to take the ball deep with his back to goal completely nullifies his best attribute (driving forward with the ball at his feet), Klidje out wide requires him to defend and he simply can’t do that.

Some tweaks required to get the best out of what’s available right now.

I’d go:
Sallinger
Passlack Hanley Ivezic Mayor
Mulligan Chaiwa Newell Matondo
McGrath
Elding

Morning all.

I’ve written another piece looking at Reedijk’s opening two games, comparing them with Gray’s final couple of matches and looking ahead to Celtic on Sunday.

I actually quite like the structure Reedijk is trying to introduce, although I’m not convinced the personnel are currently strong enough to carry it out consistently.

He’s got a lot to do in a short space of time, particularly with seven players missing and trying to improve the fitness levels while changing how the team plays.

Some interesting numbers from the first two games as well.

Interested to hear what others think, particularly whether you’d stick with the approach against Celtic or make some adjustments.

Different Manager, Familiar Problems: Reedijk’s Hibs and the Celtic Test

I've read some players are in revolt, also read that's a load of pish. Whatever, it's still too soon to see a fit, confident squad playing Marink's way. Or is it? How's training going? How's the mindset?
As always hoping for a good performance but even more hoping a humping doesn't turn the support against the manager.

Just put out a team that's reasonably hard to play against, try and stop Celtic playing their natural game, then hope for the best.
As always against them, avoid losing early goals which they always strive for in every game.
Hearts paid a heavy price for failing to do that last Sunday.

Hibs just need to grind out some wins and draws between now and the end of the season to keep us safe from the drop.
We simply don't have anything like enough quality in the squad for any better than that this season.
Avoid the play offs/relegation and that will be an achievement.
Next season will see a new Hibs team, hopefully Reedijk's team, and i'm actually quite looking forward to that.

Almost a free hit on Sunday but let's at least give them a game. They'll be on the back of a European game Thursday but we can't expect any favours. Fitness and physicality will be important. I recall Celtic usually play a high press against us. If everything goes for us, I wouldn't object to a nil nil draw?

I think we need to move away from a Mulligan Chaiwa pair. They don't work together. Both good individuals, but as a pair they're dreadful.

As for the team, I've no idea, I'd be tempted to go back to the back 3 with wingbacks, but I'm not sure that'll be an option for Marink.

We have to compete though, we have to challenge those balls.

I think we need to be competing in the one to ones all over the pitch, and then the tactical variations become more of an edge.

Last two weeks we’ve been losing battles over the pitch.

Hopefully, if they both play, Chaiwa and Mulligan show why Celtc allegedly tried tae sign them during the close season.
Our defence worries me, would have liked 5 at the back but we dinnae have any decent full backs.

I'm sorry but I'm not interested in next season. This is still only October and I expect much better than we've witnessed so far this season. I'm not interested in excuses as there's none that I'm buying. There's huge investment been made in this Hibs team. The manager need to use what he has at his disposal and get results. And those selected need to start producing performances and results. Fuck next season get doing it now.

Think I agree.
There's plenty time left in this season, our third place finish didn't start until December.
Anything is doable, just gotta go, believe and do it.

Just watched Reedijk's press conference highlights from today.
Thought he seemed a bit tetchy with the journos asking the questions.
I think though that's just how he is, that Dutch way of dealing with things.

Just accept that we are shite and pretty much always have been and you’ll feel much better. Otherwise you’ll be looking for answers on the blood pressure thread in the cooshed

I think you're being a bit harsh and expecting too much too soon. Right now I think the most we can hope for is a mid table finish and the least we can hope for is not to get relegated. Providing we start to see improved performances as the weeks go by and we start picking up points I think that's a step in the right direction.

Game looks doubtful, but I can pretty much guarantee I won’t be there as an amber warning will stop ScotRail running my train. Due to the early kick off, the only train I can get is the first one from the Borders on a Sunday. Guaranteed they will cancel it as they will need to check the line for obstruction on the line.

Yup they're already talking about major train disruption

100% this.

We've been trying to play 3 in midfield: Chaiwa, Mulligan and Abdulai in the last game - that's absolutely MENTAL! It's also part of the reason our back 4 dick about passing it amongst themselves - because when they look forward there's no-one looking for or demanding the ball. Every so often Chaiwa WILL show for a pass, but he then immediately passes it back to a defender then hides.

It's not that difficult: if you dominate midfield, you dominate the pitch.

Doesn't guarantee you'll win - BUT surrendering the whole midfield WILL make winning the game almost impossible.

I'm all for the new manager having his principles and ways of setting his team up but has to adapt to the diddies he currently has in his squad.

Make do,be pragmatic until January THEN adjust things and slowly get your own guys in.

If he persists with his system + shite players then he might not last until January.

They explained Manager's Ketchup analogy on Off the Ba. Something about it takes alot of shaking for the sauce to flow but once it does....

People just keep trying to complicate this game,go out win your personal battles and build from that, people doom and gloom already plenty to still play for this season fcuk it my local team Waterford were rock bottom of Irish premier division got first win after 17 games of a 36 game season last night basically guaranteed 8 place with a game to play and have gotten to the FAI Cup Final against Derry yes they ditched manager and brought in Graham Coughlan who should be manager of the season for what he has achieved

Hi pal. Usually get the train but because of the weather I'm gonna take the van.
If you don't mind slumming it i could give you and @Leroy a lift. Coming straight back after the game.
Could pick you up Tweedbank station.
