Like Your Synth Music?

looking forward to seeing that at some point although I can't access it at the moment. Hope there isn't much PSB's though.:giggle:

Heaven, I'm in heaven.

However, why the Brittania? (I'm not coming over all Scottish nationalist here,I'm just wondering what part of Dusseldorf that Kraftwerk come from is in Britain? or Donna Summer?)

I also hope they mention Telex. In my opinion, they were the link group between the mechanical futurism of Foxx, Kraftwerk, YMO and the "Synth pop" of Depeche, later Human League and the PSB.

This is my favourite genre of music (as if you hadn't guessed!)

My top 10?

1. We have a Technical - Tubeway army.
2. Metal - Gary Numan.
3. If you want - Depeche Mode.
4. Hiroshima mon amour - Ultravox
5. Neon Lights - Kraftwerk.
6. Celebrate - Simple Minds
7. Love action - The Human League.
8. Torch - Soft cell.
9. Pakmovast - Telex
10. Being boring - PSB

looking forward to that K, thanks for pointing out. slightly disappointing line up though; no I Travel or Club Country or Duel, and yet there's room for white fucking riot. Typical BBC; bet its stuffed with clashies.

Stirlinghibee, 'Metal' by Numan is sheer class. :) It's one of my favourite pieces of music of any kind. I never grow tired of listening to it and it sounds as fresh today as it sounded in '79 - amazing piece of sound design. 'When the Machines Rock' sounds great today too; really quirky.

Love anthing from the 1st 3 Ultravox! albums 'Hiroshima' is amazing but my fave is 'Someone Else's Clothes' is just grooves like a bassa!

'Mr No' by John Foxx.

'Paninaro' by PSB.

'Route 66' by Depeche Mode (Beatmasters mix).

Not really from that particular wave of synth but one of my favourite albums is (Edinburgh's own) Finitribe: 'An Unexpected Groovy Treat'.

The entire "Pleasure Principle" is getting played, as a follow up to the magnificent "Replica's" tour from last year (Which is the best concert I have ever attended).

Wasn't a fan of Numan at the time but been listening to him quite a lot recently. The Pleasure Principle is a very good album so pity I won't be in Edinburgh for that concert.

Also, wasn't aware of Telex till now. Top stuff. I'm quite a big fan of Air and I'm sure they'd have to admit they owe a lot to Telex.

Funnily enough i never really look at PSB really being a synth group as they've very rarely produced synth only stuff. They've never been synth purists...

However, their very first single in 1985 was Opportunities (Lets Make Lots Of Money) and it was kind of a song about those who make synth music and it was a pure synth production.

The Americans loved it not at all getting the irony. I think it still sounds great despite being 25 years old.

It has the most pretentious ending ever i think...

Pretty aware of all of them (except New Muzik) with the early to mid 80's being my formative years really. Was generally more into guitar/rock music at the time but had some stuff by most of the above. Most probably a bit too mainstream for my tastes now with the exception of OMD who are quite possibly my fave electronic band for their work up until about '83 when they went too pop for my liking. Sure they weren't complaining about the increase in cash though. Cheers mate.

I used to be in a band that did all the synth stuff in the early 80's.

Details are on this thread.

New Muzik, if they're the ones who did 'Living by Numbers' then that song was ripped off by Bruce Springsteen on 'Dancing in the Dark'.

I was tempted by the 'Replicas' tour especially as I worked with a Numanoid at the time but to be honest I went off him after 'Pleasure Principle' (tho' some of Telekon was okay it was 'Dance' that did it for me).

I was really into Blur from 'Popscene'/'Modern Life is Rubbish' but I just don't want to see a bunch of well-off old farts 'plying their trade'. Ok, Gazza's probably not so well off but he's no spring chicken either. grandpa
