Anyone ever had this or know someone who has? And if so what's your thoughts?

31 and need new glasses, so if I'm gonna do it now's the time to make it worth while.

Thinking of booking a consultation with optical express in shandwick place.

Don't go to optical express.

My mother in law had her eyes completely messed up by them. She's now on steroids etc and her vision is no better. She's also in constant pain now.

Optical express failed to do the correct screening on her eyes as she had a u diagnosed medical condition they should have picked up.

I believe this screening is now mandatory due to this incident as it was a complete mess.

I don't want to put you off as I have had several mates have it done flawlessly, I just wouldn't recommend optical express.

I had it done about 10 years ago, best money I ever spent. But do your research before picking a place do it. If it goes wrong, it's a nightmare. There are a few horror stories out there.

Ok thanks guys. There doesn't seem many places do it in Scotland but I'll hunt about for reviews to see where is best.

My dealings with Optical express in a professional capacity (I've never been a customer) have only been negative. They're a bums on seats company, competing mainly on price. Basically the Ryanair of eyecare.

If it were me, I'd look for a smaller company, research them properly and be willing to pay extra.

in 2003 I worked with a guy who did some data analysis for an laser eye company - back then the "imperfection rate" was 1 in 20.

now an imperfection might be something the person doesn't even know about, to mild occasional irritation, to pain, to blindness.

now that was per eye...so for me the chance of an imperfection would be 10/1 - I bet on stuff at those odds fully expecting them to come in.

that was almost 15 years ago.

i did get a costing for my eyes about 5 years ago, as a starting point for investigating it, and for the same money i could have a summer holiday for me and the kids....i left it at that

i'm sticking with contact lens and glasses...maybe i'm just a big fearty

Thanks folks. I'll get a couple consultations organised and let you know how I get on.

Just take some tabs o' acid.

You see the World in a clearly different (but magical) way...
