Labour

They were always going to lose after not letting Burnham stand.
Indeed. Probably the only candidate who could have crossed the sectarian divide, given his widespread popularity in Manchester. Max Headroom shoots himself in the foot again.

Another Scottish Liebour MP calling for Starmers resignation.

Torygraph reporting that if G&D swings to Greens and Reform are mirrored at the GE, Labour will be left with 33 seats.

Ironic that Labour, having abandoned their traditional working class base to pursue identity based politics, have been well and truly hoisted by their own petard.

Ps. My auto-correct changed petard to retards, but I don't think it makes that much of a difference tbf.

Among all the bounce posters of yesteryear I miss for more wholesome reasons, I'd love to see a return of new labour ultra hibbie0762. I told him this would happen 20 odd years ago and how he laughed at my insanity. I'd genuinely love to get his take on where we are now.

I wonder how Labour move forward now? Selling yourself on what you are not - ie vote for us to stop reform - is a pathetically weak hand for a governing party to begin with, and now it's bust.

And the greens may now be as big if not ultimately a bigger threat to Labour as are Reform. Many old Labour voters were lost before Reform ever arose, with the latter finally giving them a viable home (versus the tories and other protest vote vehicles). That said it is likely the case that Reform will win new voters as they will get the people who just could not bring themselves to vote tory.

But the Labour core as it is now - the affluent middle class, the professions, public sector management, students, and imported voters - well the greens are far more up their street, not to mention the broadcast media, academics and others who help labour mould their electorate.

Labour are in an apparently impossible position as the country balkanises - for now at least, politically, and let's hope it doesn't go further - as a result of all the good work they did when last in government, and due to the work of their own aforementioned cheerleaders.

Who is their first priority for defensive measures now, and how on earth do they set about that task while not becoming unelectable anyway through losing their other wing?

I think they are finished tbh, in current form anyway. They just don't have a viable constituency anymore, as their fundamentally unstable coalition falls to pieces. Of course the green coalition is fundamentally unstable to an even greater extent, but they have in their favour start-up advantages and a willingness to get right down in the gutter that new labour dug but tried to stay out of. That could last them until demographic change means they no longer require the left part of islamoleftism.

I think they're totally and absolutely fucked with no chance of recovery.

I think the Tories can and probably will survive and come back (ironically defections to Reform has probably helped them) but I can't see it for Labour. Such a broad church doesn't exist in multi party politics and where the electorate is so pissed off, angry and promiscuous.

They'd ultimately fail but maybe better position themselves for some kind of survival if they could get a popular leader with personality that gives them a clear identity. It's becoming more obvious by the day that they've only two real options in Burnham or Rayner as they look to become a more left wing government.

A good assessment there. Your last paragraph probably nails it. We’re in an era of personality politics where charisma is more important than policy or competency.

POLICE have confirmed they are investigation allegations Labour broke election laws as voters rejected them at the ballot box in a seismic by-election defeat.

Archie's lads sounding a bit Billy Britain there. Still a few strokes of the editorial pen and all will be well.

More seriously I cannae abide this from all parties - and the LDs are probably the worst offenders - ie taking a stance at local level that is completely the opposite of the claptrap that comes out of central office and thus blatantly fraudulent bollocks

Mahmood came back from Denmark with a plan it seems.

The change follows Mahmood’s visit last week to Denmark, which introduced a similar approach in recent years.

The Danish government has reduced asylum claims by more than 90% in a decade, but has been accused of breaching the human rights of refugees.

The left-leaning Social Democrats, which have been in power in Copenhagen since 2019, have seen off an insurgent populist party after adopting a hardline stance.

counter-terrorism detectives are searching what are understood to be residential addresses in London, East Kilbride and Cardiff.

Mahmood really on a roll now:

I can understand the reasoning but what do these people do to sustain themselves? The only option I can see is slipping further and further into criminal ways and so the whole thing just gets worse!

No I don't know what I would do with them.

I see in that article student visas from 4 countries are being stopped. Another route would be to criminalize 'fake' educational establishments.

Edit: or only allow students in who will be attending accredited educational establishments.

30K tae go hame? That'll keep them oot.
I'm not following you here Bill, what do you mean?

It's a good point. I'll guess a popular answer will be immediate deportation?

Read this this morning.

The Home Secretary refused to rule out paying up to £30,000 for families to leave willingly as an incentive, in a bid to save the taxpayer money.

Ah I see. Had a google. Found this:

If the rules around the system are changed for new folk arriving, this looks like it'll speed up the removal of those failed seekers already here and therefore save cash in the long run. Another stolen successful Danish idea it seems.

Depends where they’re sent to, if it’s only France 2 or 3 trips to the U.K. a year is a nice little earner. Seriously is there not a danger a 30000 bounty to go home is an even bigger attraction to come here in the 1st place. Unless I’ve missed where it says it’s only for those already here

Yeah, said similar in my post above yours. Got to think the rules will be changed for newer failures to prohibit that.

Can they give me 40K to leave?
