I can’t see another just back, if I’ve missed it and being an idiot, then I apologise. However, on the assumption there ain’t one, I think it would be sad to let 1875 legacy drift away, so here is my take on yesterday’s offerings.
An early windy start had me unusually in my seat 15 mins before KO. I noticed we had only given the smellies half the stand, and with many empty seats around the stadium, I think this is a strange decisions. Lots of different opinions on that, but that’s mine. I also noticed Hibs were watering the south Side of the pitch, considering the deluge of rain we have had over the few days I found that surprising, and only the one side. Then at half time, we only watered the North side! Maybe Hibs making it slippy for one team’s defence? Who knows! Since I’m on half time, I noticed the subs only came out for the last 5 mins of the warm up? Strange
.
Onto the game and we started brightly with a half chance in the 1st minute, and an excellent goal in the 2nd. Happy days. I suspect it was less than 2 minutes we conceded. I thought at the time a smelly had got in between our 2 to score, but seen at HT it was a spectacular og. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that the swirling wind was the reason.
The rest of the half was tricky for both teams, with both making equal mistakes, and Hibs looking industrious as opposed to exciting. Then a great ball from I think Kerr, and a nice touch from Klidge had us out our seats thinking it was 2-1. Unfortunately a minute later it was
. A slip from a Ivezic I think ( plan about wetting the pitch one end no worky!. It was a fantastic finish though it grudgingly has to be said.
2nd half was tricky again, and hard to judge any progress. Smellies struggled just as much as us, but definitely looked a bit more likely to score than us.
Of course the talking point was Hanley getting subbed on and the initial gasp then laughter from the stands when he went up front! The atmosphere for the final ten minutes was surreal, and almost pantomime like anytime the ball got fired up to him. I had actually thought 10 mins prior to him coming on that we put Kerr up front, as nothing was sticking at all, and his attacking off the ball in the air is (usually
) his strong point. Big Grant actually done well, it was kinda written in the stars he would score.
But he didn’t and we lost AGAIN.
Our next two games are mahoosive. Lose both, and it’s fuckin doom time, win both and the world is a rosier place. Who would be anything but a Hibee eh !
Team
Sallinger. Done okay in horrible conditions for a keeper. I think we have bigger positions to worry about than goalie
Mayor . Done well I thought, especially defensively
Ivezic. Looks good on the ball. Pity about the mistake for the goal. Could turn out to be a good acquisition
Kerr really must do better. Hopefully he settles down a bit WHEN we start winning games. Excellent in the air
Mulligan would the real Josh please return. He can’t be fully fit, can only explain how far off the pace he is, in all aspects of the the game
Newell superb. Silky yet brash. Gave his all, hasn’t had much games lately but must have impressed the manager
Chaiwa some really good moments , some really bad. Workrate excellent
Passlack captain even with Joe back in the 11. I thought he done well mostly. We are going to rely on this guy to be a proper captain and keep high standards if our season is to change. I have every confidence in him
McGrath. Tried hard, but I can’t remember much about him yesterday to be honest. Done ok, another we need to step up.
Klidge. I’m beginning to lose all with this guy. Whatever he is, it isn’t a left winger. Maybe a couple of goals is what he needs. Let’s hope he gets them, and soon.
Elding. What a great finish hopefully do him the world of good, and what a shift he put in. A thankless task getting balls fired into him, I’m a hurricane, back to goal with 2 sometimes 3 big units on his back. He is really all we have up front just now.
Suto. Matondo, Abdulai. Least said the better really. All must do better
Manager and coaches … small signs of progression, yesterday’s weather really dictated what happened, so can’t really judge. Two games to buy yourself lots of time lads. Get it done, take the chance
Smellies…. Obviously they had the same conditions as us, but I would imagine their squad cost and is priced and paid about 10x as ours. You would never have thought it.
Get praying to the god of your choice, or get the lucky pants on for the next two games. Two wins would be fantastic. Two defeats dosent bear thinking about.
Two wins it will be then
