It's been a while since I've been involved in the shambles that is our court system, but been cited this week.

So today the message was "be available for a phone call between 10 & 1:30"

How does that even work, they haven't phoned, but presumably I can't claim expenses for today even though I had to juggle my work commitments so I was available despite work an hours drive away.

Is it the same all over Scotland?

I got cited around this time last year.
I had to phone the number between 5-5.30 every night from Monday to Thursday.
This routine ( I assume) is to save them having folk congregating at the court so I doubt you'll not get expenses.
The story below probably explains why it's this way now.



I was cited around 45 years ago when I had to go to court. Was chosen to be on the jury, but was one of 3(?)they can refuse.
I was chuffed because the guy that was up was a local heedcase/ nutter/ psycho. ( no deletion necessary!)
Better still I got paid for being present. Got paid for missing 5 hours at work.
As did everyone who had time off work.

I’m well past it and have my permanent excusal 👍 praise the lord, I suppose there may well be some that fancy being on jury service 🤷‍♂️
 
Only ever been called up once, but didn’t make the Final Cut.
Would have found it interesting in a weird sort of way.

I did it once (jury duty) for 3 weeks, both dull and fascinating. Still exempt now but that runs out soon.
 
Got called up a few yrs didn't get picked but had to phone every day for a week before I was told I wasn't needed

Then got diagnosed with sleep apnea so that's me excused for life

Didn't have to attend court, and my bank account is £162 up, I think I might have to not moan about this.
 
🙈🙈🙈 got the letter today “jury service”
Got one last Sept as well but was going on holiday for the dates..
As having sleep apnea i won’t be going, that’s my excuse, i will fall asleep

I've got sleep apnea as well got a letter from the sleep clinic sent it in and that's me off the list for life

I had to get a doctors letter and email it to the courts.
But i won't get called again.

I sympathise bud, my mate has it and wears the mask at night too. 👍

I’m 24 times an hour… but it’s not oxygen, it’s just air….

It’s just air pumped through a machine through a hose into your face mask.
There’s enough hot air on here 🤣🤣
There’s a thing like a flex in your throat, and a pump in your chest, the more you relax the weight from your chest blocks the flex and it shuts, stopping you breathing, but your body reacts and wakes you up, hence NEVER going into a deep sleep. The air getting forced down your throat keeps this flex thing open. I had it for months before my mrs told me i stopped breathing in my sleep… i was going to work every day absolutely knackered, to the extent i was feeling hungover, as Guys in my work said , “you rough” am i fuck i said, just knackered… then i found out why.
Went to hospital, fitted me with sleep recording stuff on my chest linked to s monitor… that’s when t they said i stopped breathing 24 times……. An hour!!
The mask takes a bit of getting used to tbh, still not comfortable with it, but it definitely helps

We were away on a pipe band trip for a week and were put up in twin rooms. One of the guys on his first trip explained that he had sleep apnia and how the noise from his machine might bother his roommate.

I can sleep through anything so I said he could room with me.

What a fucking racket!

It wasn't so much the pump itself but there was a really loud howling/screeching sound that seemed to come from the mask.

It didn't stop me sleeping though (it was a week of excesses!) apart from the 1st 15 minutes every night when I'd be pissing myself laughing.

Tbf if there’sa noise from the mask then there is a leak, not on properly. The machine is just about noiseless, but i believe in years gone by they were quite noisy.
I think most people unaware of it think that, well you don’t get a good sleep…
But i tell you, it’s more than that, it literally wipes you out, completely…
It really is a massive affliction which is a lot more than just being tired all the time… imagine not ever getting an actual sleep for months…
It can literally change your life getting the diagnosis and the remedy

This would have been about 25 years ago. I'd never heard of sleep apnia before then but my mate explained it to me. I was happy to "help" even though he's a Merrick.

Yeah I’m sure the “remedy” then would’ve had machines that would probably have kept you awake anyway, defeating the purpose.
 
Pretty sure my missus has that, but just intermittently.
Some nights she’s fine, no disturbance.
Other nights it’s a nightmare and I have to unknot the sock.
I mean the scarf.

Too far?
 
When I got tested they told me I might wait up to 3 months for the results unless it was serious I got a phone call the next day telling me I was to come in as soon as possible
Took me a long time to get used to it but now I feel I couldn't get to sleep without it
