I have just started the long lask of converting my cds to iTunes. One problem is that I have a number of cds with live music on them. Obviously, when imported they just come up with track 1, track 2 etc.....which is a complete pain as it will be impossible to find anything as there will be multiple songs wit hthe same name.

Is it possible to give these songs titles and give the cd a name?

I think you right click on it once you've uploaded it, then click 'get info' and you can manually input the details then save, you can also add a jpeg in this way to appear as album artwork.

Does Itunes not tag the songs as it imports them ? Tagging mp3 s is a piece of cake but i'm not familiar with Itunes.

Import album folder , click first track , hold shift and click bottom track which enables you to put in Artist and Album name , album art in a oner . Tracks names have to be done one at a time though

Aye, but it uses the gracenote database to identify the tracks and the CDs that Jack is uploading are live or bootleg types that wont be recognised, I've had quite a few like that over the years.

Ah i see . I was editing as i went , it can be done manually with the software i mentioned but i'm not an itunes user so not certain it's what Jack needs

Aye, it seems that software is pretty similar to the various tabs that are available on the 'get info' option on iTunes. It can become a bit of a laborious process, hopefully the vast majority of Jack's 2000 CDs are recognised straight up.

At least 90% of them should be fine.

Another pest is that I have zip files of Lux 'n' Ivys Favourites and rather than being able to select a cd to listen to, the songs appear by artists name. I dont know if this can be sorted? I am useless at trying to understand this kind of stuff and 'need' to watch someone doing it.

You can manually overtype the "Track 1" etc. entries in the Recently Added section of iTunes. Just click on the entry you want to change and a cursor will appear, allowing you to change as appropriate. Works for song title, artist, album, music type etc.
You can do this in most categories, including Library, but doing it an album at a time in Recently Added is the easiest way. Less chance of you getting confused by the various different Track 1's that way.

Cheers Bill. Bought the 160GB version today and starting the long task.......

fj - needs lots more XTC ;O)

You can alter the details at source if you go to the source folder for each album and right click on each, yes each, track individually and selecting properties. You then need to check the permissions and make sure you can alter stuff. Try the editing option and check the boxes if needed. It doesn`t always allow you to do this though!
Then you can change track titles and most other info as you need. I had to do this for a ton of stuff, it took me weeks...:glassraise:

If you just change it in the ' get info ' box within itunes....that may work but if anything fecks up or you lose data for any reason....you might find you have to do it all again.....i know i did! If you can......try and change info in properties. That`s been my experience anyway....FWIW.

Good luck anyway. It`s a bloody nightmare trying to alter stuff in itunes. It always seems to resent you trying to change anything.....:surp@

This is how I done it. Once you've ripped a few CD's to iTunes, sort them by date added so you know which is which. You can assign album artwork and album titles to multiple tracks at once by selecting all the tracks on the album (hold down shift and use arrow keys) and then doing the "get info" thing. Obviously the track names have to be done individually which is a right pain in the arse :(

Or click track 1 , hold shift and click last track :smug:

My only problem with the "Get Album Artwork" option is that it occasionally allocates totally the wrong cover, and it's a complete bugger to remove it. So I manually add the album covers any time I add new music. Yes, I'm sad like that. :glassraise:

Right. I very generously gave my wife my old iPod Touch. Surprisingly enough she said 'Can you get rid of this Fall stuff' - no problem, it will take two minutes and I will put some Scott Walker on there for you...Famous last words!

How the hell do you get music off this damn thing? Driving me mental.

Great result again for the Red Scheidt tonight. I could retire at the end of the season by laying them each game at this rate :laff

I learned my lesson with that as well. I always add the album covers manually. We`re both sad like that....:thumbgrin

Probably the best way is to create a new playlist in iTunes - "Lynn's iPod" or similar, then adjust the settings so that your old iPod syncs with that playlist only. Should then remove any tunes not on the list.
