UKIP vote was enough to deny the tories victory in enough seats that had that vote gone to the tories they'd have won a majority.

of course this assumes that UKIP voters would otherwise go tory, and that tory policies that would win UKIP voters wouldn't cost them other votes. nonetheless, interesting.

Although UKIP Toies are exactly the kind of Tories that the Tories can do without if they are to evolve and keep power. They're the "bastards" of the Major administration and the ones who would block Ken Clark having a role in governemtn (personally, I hope he's the next chancellor).
