It’s Just Not Cricket

The Aussies played by the rules and it was definitely out. Bairstow and the England coach as a player have form for doing very similar so pretty hypocritical from them.

Just saw the scenes in the pavillion afterwards! All the old no-doubt Tory, Brexit voting poshos in their stupid stripey blazers abusing the Aussie team walking through. Lucky for them the Australians stayed cool.

I can see both sides but on balance I think it's a right dodgy wicket to take. I also think the fact that Bairstow dragged his foot along inside the crease is significant, I'd say that's him claiming his ground which to me should make the ball dead.

But if it's noised up Sunak and the MCC then all good.

Wouldn’t have been acceptable 40 years ago; but times have changed and cricket is big business.

Just seems like cheating though…I wouldn’t have appealed it.

Top marks to Rishi for spotting a people’s bandwagon to jump on to.

It started 40 years ago( and a bit more).
Anything goes now.
Cricket, in England at least, has been shown for what it is.
Elitest and Racist.
Hope the convicts stuff them 0-5.

Sure I read not long ago that Scottish cricket was racist tae. I always think of the end of Carry On Up The Khyber when I see it on telly. :gigglle:

I can also see both sides and in an ideal it wouldn't be part of the game but for me in this instance, the ball is dead when the umpire calls 'over'. That hadn't happened I don't think. Bottom line, concentrate on the job and stay in your crease.

I'm not keen on the hypocracy being shown here. England coach Brendan McCullum keeping wicket for New Zealand ran out a batsman who was walking down the pitch to celebrate his mate's century. And he had to apologise for it later. Now he 'won't be having beers' with the opposition because it happened to his team. Bairstow himself has been known to try the same tactic when keeping wicket. Sore losers.

They're Jacob Reece Mogg's kids aren't they?

Australia don't win anything else England should let them win.

Oh! Forgot. England don't win anything either 😆

On a side note. I wonder if woman's football would be so popular, certainly on TV, if the trophy winning Lionesses were as habitually disappointing as the men's team.

Oh, and as for the current cricket furore. What goes around comes around. I'm fairly certain if the roles were reversed we'd be hearing all about it being in the rules.

I was out once in similar circumstances. I was recalled to the crease. I didn't want to go but had to for the good of the team, my team 😆. We won but didn't go for drinks afterwards. That showed them!!

You must be the only cricketer to eat a rowie while opening the innings.

Bairstow is regularly involved in shithousery when he keeps wicket, including pretending to catch and stump, making the running batsmen dive for the crease, pishing himself laughing if the batsmen falls for it.
He walked out of the crease the previous two balls, the Aussie keeper caught & threw the ball with no delay, just the same as a stumping from a spin bowler, he was just further back in this case.

Nivver mind a' that ashes crap, Scotland just whooped Zimbabwe's ass in Bulawayo to set up a decider v ... the fkn Netherlands! 🤣 (and Scotland already beat egb and moaty's socialist tourist paradise West Indies 🫢 )

On the plus side, watch Ashes coverage tumble down the sports pages now it appears England may be on the end of a pumping. Similar to what happens during one of their many 5-0 whitewashes down under.

I like cricket but it gets a ridiculously disproportionate amount of coverage IMO. The Ashes in particular, for what is basically just a long, drawn out contest between 2 teams, one of which happens to be England. The much-heralded “Botham’s Ashes” of the early 80’s was played out to half-full stadiums I believe. So not even as if it’s always been a big deal.

Years ago I emailed Sky complaining that the deaths of 5 children in a house fire, in Dunfermline if I remember correctly, got a brief mention towards the end of the section whilst the first item was a report on an England defeat to Australia in one of the ashes tests. Not a win, a defeat. Not in the sports section but the main news.
Bastards never replied.

England being total hypocrites especially broad. Refused to walk when clearly hit it as aussies had no reviews left. Then boasted about it. The spirit of the game not in view then. The next game at headingley will be rained off anyway. The aussies will be spitting feathers over the crowds behaviour and the England players will get it back in spades when they go to oz next time and will totally deserve it. Loads of ex England players saying it was bairstows stupidity that got him out. Usual whinging poms.

Zero coverage on SSN about the wifies ashes after the aussies beat england 16-0 overall in a tournament covering one day, 20/20 and test matches 😩oh dear, the silence is deafening 🤣

India and Australia are top dogs for now. India have an 'optimal' pool from which to choose and Aussies get something in their joey milk when kids that makes them all fúkkin outstandingly brill at sports, even if they are congenital nerds.

Nah there's been loads of chat. Particularly because Alex Hartley called out their lack of fitness and got blacklisted and then they got done.

Don't personally think the english media is anything like as gungho about the cricket team as they are about the fitba. Far more reasonable
