Is love just a reflection of our insecurities?

Well, is it?

You happily married men : If your favourite supermodel offered you her body and untold riches would you stay with your wife?

You happily married men : If your wifes favourite film star offered his body and untold riches would she stay with you?

Is it just where we are on the food chain? Did we get lucky? Have we just accepted where we are now?

I'm not sure love exists in the man-woman thing. We're just products of Darwinism.

I coined the phrase of my title whilst a youth and although I've lost a lot of my cynism I'm not sure I was wrong.

And believe it or not I'm a f#ckin romantic. I fall at the feet of a woman. Am I a fool? Probably.

But I've seen love. My son. I'd walk over hot coals for him. I'd lay my life on the line without thinking. And the biggest love I've ever seen is from a mother to a child. Much as we have our differences I know my ex would walk over even more coals for him. She'd kill for him. And so would my mother for me. Blind eye when I was sneaking a tenner out her purse, but she knew. Much to my chagrin, she knew.

So love exists, in it's purest form.

I just don't think it's between adult man and woman.

Thoughts?

Right there Haruki, the bit in bold is where you shot yourself in the foot mate. As you fumbled through the reasons in your mind why love perhaps doesnt exist you fought with the ideal and admitted that you love your son more than perhaps life itself.

Either you don't and love is just a lie. Or you do and love actually exists despite your obvious cynicism :glassraise:

AS the Bard said

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
There's nothing in this world so sweet as love. And next to love the sweetest thing is hate.

but surely the love for your offspring is different from the love for you chosen partner?

I think love in the sense of man & women is what you make off it, to me it is my friendship with my wife which out stretches any other friendship it is the knowing that no matter how much we hate each other at times, we still can make each other smile, and we forgive without apoligy.

and as for the leaving each other for riches and stuff, I know i wouldn't cos i'm not materialistic like that and i Know (and well hope) That Mrs MK is the same,

Sheeee-it, no. I was brought up in Watten. I couldn't steal an eyebrow of my beautiful mother.

I lifted a couple of tenners and the memory appalls me. I hate me.

But you live....

An interesting topic, certainly.

Between a father and son, is it not only unconditional love but instinct that governs your reactions?

I believe you can fall in love, many loves are circumstantial definatley, with you picking a winner in your designated "league", but then there are always the "why is she with him" brigade, with implies that love can indeed be blind. :laff:

This is all coming from a 19 year old, immature as i may be, im just giving my thoughts and meanderings on a topic which stirred inner debate.
