The risk of nuclear conflict is rising. It’s time for the world to pull itself back from the edge.

Yup. It’s a much more dangerous world, with the NYT having played its own part in the erosion of the US which has contributed massively to that.
But don’t lose any sleep over nukes @Archie, well unless some jihadi mob like Iran get them. Putin’s so afraid of death that during Covid he would take absurd measures to hide from a wee bug. I doubt he fancies nuclear immolation, and nor do the gangsters around him who would prefer hookers and bling ta vm. The Chinese are too level headed and the yanks don’t want it either.
The biggest risk I suppose is, as ever, a mistake. Unfortunately decadence and naïveté have put us in a situation akin to the start of the Cold War and much brinksmanship of a very dangerous kind will be needed to reestablish detente.
We didn’t go up in smoke last time though, and I don’t see it this time.
