HS2.

Will they charge 3 quid for anywhere to anywhere on the route until Ocean Terminal for which the price will rise to 10 quid even if you get on the stop before?

You only get charged £10 if you didn't buy a ticket from the machine before boarding. You've been a naughty boy.
And so have i. I refused to pay it and got told to get off at the next stop.

I was just making a comic comparison with the airport line.

Can you explain more how that extra charge thing works in practice?

(Last time in Embra, my cred card wouldnae even work in the machine and I had to get one of the staff at the terminal to help take payment!)

I wonder how much of a fiasco this new tram line being proposed between Granton and Little France will be.

No doubt grossly over budget and it will cause disruption for years.

If there was only a bus service that took the exact same route. They could us the number 8. I livec

🤔
38 goes from Granton to Westerrn General and on to Royal Infirmary, I live in the middle of the route so can get to and from either hosp[tal in around 20 minutes. Wsould be more practical to uncrease the frequency of this service.

Wasn’t the whole issue with the initial Edinburgh trams that ECC thought they knew best and could project manage the whole shebang themselves? 🤯 They set up TIE for this purpose I think then had contractual rings run round them by contractors like Bilfinger and Siemens.

The lack of engineering skills in the UK is a worry, we used to be a world leader. Still are to an extent in terms of oil & gas, go to pretty much any big oil & gas site in the world and you’ll likely find a few expat Scots running the show.

Re: Hinkley Point this seems to be an issue. When I was made redundant a couple of years ago I had an agency call me up asking if I could commission a swivel crane for one of the reactors 🙈 Way outside my skill set so obviously declined but a bit concerning I was even asked.
Back in the seventies engineers were no longer respected - the wages were shit and we haemorrhaged talent and knowledge as people went abroad where they could earn good money.

How do other countries chuck up far superior rail lines much quicker and cheaper?

You should see the mess of things California has made of HS rail. Started off with a plan for San Francisco to San Diego for $20 billion back in 2008. It's now 2026 and I don't think there is even a bit of track laid. And the the section of track they are about to start work on is about 120 miles connecting two central valley towns, Modesto and Merced. And even then I think the terminal is 10 miles outside of town. And the cost has been something like $60 billion. But the whole thing is corrupt here.
