Looking to replace the existing nineteen-canteen one we have with something more up-to-date (translation one that works)... any recommendations ? looked at a few online but none the wiser and costs seem to vary drastically. Would prefer a wireless install.

Any hibby alarmsters out there ?

I know both personally, and can recommend both.

Get it installed by an approved alarm installer .. anything else is a lottery.

What make of alarm system do you have installed? I've repaired dozens of alarms people have wanted to replace and saved them a fair bit of cash.
At the end of the day you put in a code number to turn it on or off, what more does it need to do?

get a big fucking dug.

or a motion sensitive speaker with a variety of barking and or S.W.A.T. recordings!

imagine the brown panter your burglar would get if he heard a thick Brooklyn accent telling him he was surrounded.

Dinnae get the two mixed up though, 'cos if your dug starts doing commando rolls over the couch, its curtains for your dvd player

Already got the big dog bit covered - though more likely to end his loud barking by licking any intruder to death if they did see fit to try it on :-)

Tell the commando rolls bit to the dug as he already seems to have been to the labrador sas school - mancky git thinks the sofa = assault course

No idea stevie - no visible branding on it - had new doors installed, so door contact sensors gone, got a few broken window sensors and no idea what the code is anymore is the sum of it

all i can tell you is contact based sensors on windows/doors, key pad, big white box with load of wires going in upstairs... probably as helpful as nowt but thats i all i know about it

Give me a shout, I will do what I can

Rip the old one out, and get one of these

You can do all the work yourself and its cheap for what your getting.

I had a look at that ..

Cant see a brand make or indications it complies to UK specifications so my first worry would be how long the company might be trading for. This might not seem relevant but if the company stops trading then its possible that one piece of faulty equipment a year down the line would render the whole system obsolete. That is the way of these cheap wire-free systems .. I have seen dozens enter the UK market and become obsolete within a couple of years.
They wont be acceptable for insurance purposes (or police response) either if that ever becomes a condition of your insurance comapny .. or you are simply looking for any discounts.

It's claim about dialling out free of charge on GSM sounds good until you read further down and notice that it involves a "Pay as you go" sim card.

What type of batteries are used and how often do they need to be changed? How long is the back-up cover during a power cut? How secure is external siren? How easy is it to program for part-setting etc.?

You get what you pay for I suppose, but I would be very wary about ripping out what might be a perfectly good, professionally installed hard wired system to install one of these imported wire-free systems.

Kev, have you actually purchased and installed the system on the link you've given?

Buy a shit house and fill it with shit that's not worth shit so people don't want to break in and steal your shit.

That just encourages shit people to break into your shit house and then shit in your house when they realise its full of shit that is shit.
