I know a couple of guys had the op.

Made new men of them.
Go for it mate.

Fucking hell. I know a few who have had it, but not at your age, granted.

I know a boy, who`s wife is in her 50`s, and was a lifelong Aerobics teacher. She has had 2 knee-caps and one hip replaced. She has another hip to be done.

I know this much. It`s a fucking long lay-off, but she is up and about just fine.

Age on yer side mate, it won`t be easy, but you will get full mobility back in time.

Ye`ll be fine mate, "patience" is the key word. :thumbgrin

Still, fuckin` dull yin. :wow:

My laddie had a new hip last year. He was 29. There were reasons for it being done at such an early age[Perthes disease],but he is chuffed with it.

If he's not busy, he may post on here & tell you all about it himself.

Recovery time could be a lot less if you are fit and all goes well.

Nothing wrong with healthy terror of going under the knife either.

I've survived three ops in the last couple of years.
:yeah:

Statistically however, that narrows the odds on you being a vegetable or just not waking up.

Good luck though.
:approve:

ha ha ha . Cheers doc.

It's a relatively common operation these days. Friend of mine has had both his hips done in his 50's due to severe arthritis and it has, quite literally, made a new man of him as he is pain free and can walk without a stick for the first time in a good few years.

My advice would be to ask your consultant plenty of questions as there are different methods of operating depending on whether you need a full or partial replacement. Some are more surgically invasive than others. Ask what the normal recovery time is and, in particular, ask how your rehab will be supported i.e what physiotherapy and exercise support you will receive.

Normal course is to try to get you mobile again as soon as possible so the muscles don't have time to atrophy but I believe the more minimally invasive techniques require an initial period of absolute rest immediately post-op.

Good luck!
