Which way will labour go if it is defeated?

I can see a number of possibilities which I have personified as labour grandees (had to dig hard for an old labour type, hope Dennis Skinner does the job well enough).

So, will labour go;

The Harman route; mad pc politics of hampstead liberalism.

The Balls route; more controlling, technocratic meddling

The (Frank) Field route; centrist, slightly populist, but with labour's core vote firmly in mind

Skinner; all gears in reverse, back to a pre John Smith left wing labour party

Or perhaps any others?

There best hope is to listen to Mandelson. Will they? Nope.

I have a funny feeling scheming Harman will get in with the unions backing. They see New Labour as just socialism with middle class folk presenting it.
Don't get much more middle class than Harman who went to the same schol as the shadow chancellor George Osborne. She's about as impressive.

This assumes that they lose - they may not.

I think the labour party will implode,there will be much soul searching and the word "new" might be dropped.It can't lurch any further to the right without it becoming them.Whats the saying nature abhors a vacuum?Well the vaccum is now oppening up on the left.

I hope the Field route, if it's the Harman route is the end of the party. Her ridiculous PC politics and obsession with class (despite going to one of the most expensive schools in the country) is sullying the Labour Party and British politics as a whole.

I have a feeling ed milliband may be leader within 3/4 years. He's out manoeuvered his brother and seems to be reaosnable personable, got a lot of backing within the party too.

Agree on the Ed Miliband shout, reckon he has a very good chance too.

I don't think Labour will have to change very much in the years ahead tbh. A new leader for sure, then after that just perform good opposition and the tories will fall apart. I don't rate many of their ministers and I can see power problems for them once in government.

The 'Skinner Path' would be interesting! :Sparkle_Cool:
