Careful...
Posting an article describing the scientific differences between male and female brains could be enough to have you demonised/ cancelled on plenty online platforms nowadays.

Thank fuck for the Bounce eh 🧐

Whatever our differences, we are women and men of science within these halls Bri, though I note even the boffins are hedging their bets on brain formation arising from sex or ‘gendered experience’.

No. Says a scientific study. Here is another report about that study in a science magazine.

I wasted my time reading it. Less than riveting than a barmy Bounce
match report thread. Genuinely havnae a clue what this latest wheeze is about or trying to go to.

Could go anywhere or nowhere, baby.

I mean it does go against narratives of the day, as science often does, but it’s just a story in itself.

Could just end in Les Dawson mother-in-law jokes.

I suppose it shouldn't be too surprising given other biological differences between the sexes.

The use of an AI is interesting. I do like to see positive use cases for this stuff beyond getting Frank Sinatra to sing Barbie Girl. If it can help scientists map brain function beyond what is currently possible then there's big possibilities for medical progress there.

I noticed in the New Scientist article that none of the people tested were transgender. I guess that would be the study to actually challenge the narrative of the day particularly given the AI models 10% margin of error.

I think that last point is interesting. I believe there are genuine cases of transsexual people - as opposed to transgender- where its basically an intersex person but where that physical mix is present in brain formation but not genital development.

It’s a study of about a thousand people mostly from the United States and Germany.Do it to the whole population of the world and then if you get the same result I’ll have to accept it.

That’s quite a high bar Moaty. Will every apple have to fall from every tree before you reach a conclusion on gravity ?

very interesting lecture on neuro-biological dimorphism (variation in characteristics) between Trans and Cis - hadnt been aware of these biological differences in the brain before - genuinely enlightening

Not surprising to me. Per post 9 I think ‘genuine’ cases are intersex not manifested in genitals. I rather suspect a rather large ratio of those riding the current wave wouldn’t exhibit this - perhaps especially the middle aged heterosexual men who have now decided they are lesbians and demand access to women’s spaces.

I rather suspect something similar explains some instances of gay people. In short, foetal transition from female to male leaves lots of room for a mix of characteristics.

Tried to watch that video, but found it easier to understand why Clancy gave a penalty.

on what basis are you saying that? prof seems to suggest a very high correlation (if not causation) between brain 'shape' and trans tendencies. o doubt there are some cynically using that but a large proportion?

@Doc Shrink he's basically saying there are biological differences in the brain between males and females and when you cut dead people up those who felt they were born in the wrong gender invariably had the form of their preferred rather than what could be inferred from their sex organs. in my view its strong evidence to suggest that gender is biologically determined just not by genitalia?

yes a large portion. I mean I can't be certain but it smacks of a fad to me. Massive uptick on previous levels, some identifiable categories that look extremely dubious etc. Other intersex examples would be reference for speculating on population distribution and they are tiny in number.

On dubious categories-

The aforementioned middle aged heterosexual men who want to put on a dress and get into womens spaces. In what possible sense is a biological male with the default reproductive instincts of maledom a woman or even resembling of one? It certainly can't be a preference for female gender roles unless you want to obliterate all feminist claims and their underpinnings. These are social constructs by and large (though not exclusively).

Vulnerable autistic girls who've been bullied and exposed to doctrinaire materials etc

Middling male athletes who grow their hair, hold onto their wanger, and dominate women's events.

Gay people who have been pressured into thinking they are the opposite gender rather than the nature of their sexuality being accepted

Etc.
