Flymo Mower Adjustment

Any gardening or mower experts on here? Ordered a Flymo recently and it comes with a little plastic spanner to adjust it for the length of grass. Only problem is when you try to use it (turn anticlockwise), it's rigid and doesn't turn. Have tried using oil to no avail. Any suggestions?

Ordered a metal adjustable wrench. Hopefully that does the trick!

You'll probably find a how to (break a plastic spanner) adjust a flymo instruction video on YouTube.

Yeah tried that. Will see how I get on tomorrow. Seems a common problem with Flymo products reading some of the comments online. I'm hopeful the metal wrench will do the job.

Should've bought a petrol mower.
My wife pleaded with me for months to get one for her.....

Aye perhaps. Don't have a huge garden and thought this would be best for my needs. Pain in the A so far. Hopefully some positivity tomorrow.

The Flymo spanners used to be made out of metal, sadly unavailable now. A few things you could try:

Pour boiling water over it, sometimes expands the metal enough to loosen the nut.

Try tapping on a spanner with a hammer the opposite way, this can sometimes loosen it enough.

Destroy one or two of the plastic spacers underneath. Cheap to replace on eBay and you'll then be able to get some leverage on the nut.

Failing these, take it to a lawnmower dealer/repearer or garage. They've got the tools to take it off, often for nothing or just a few quid.

Good luck.

Thanks! Contemplating either a garage or returning. The wrench did nothing. Tried all other suggestions.

Maybe a daft one but have you tried turning it in the other direction? Sometimes power tools turn in the opposite direction to what you'd expect due to the spinning forces on them.

If it's any consolation trying to adjust the cutting height on my Black and Decker mower is a PITA too and I'm still not really sure how to do it. Grabbing the lever and giving it a damn good thrashing seems to eventually do the trick.
