Dunno if this is recent or not but this site is utterly cheap as fuck for legitimate MP3s. http://www.mp3va.com

Pretty much all 10p an MP3 meaning you're getting 10 track album for 1 but with the 20% discount you can get it for 0.77p!

Well, I'm impressed.

Fuck iTunes.

Aye, man. Currently playing an album in iTunes i downloaded earlier via this site. It's MP3s which are universal. Also come with album artwork.

No, you need to drag it into iTunes. You trying this on the iPad?

Couple more questions, hope you don't mind mate.

In my gaff there is a Mac, 2 ipads,2 ipod touches and an iphone

So on each device there is itunes, I now know any music downloaded from the above site has to be done via the mac and then drag and drop (yes?) But am I not right in thinking that I can only authorise itunes (and therefore the music held on the mac) to a maximum of 5 devices?

And also,(this is kinda nothing to do with that website) how does icloud work with all the above?

Can I/my wife/my daughter have our own itunes on each of our devices, hook up to the mac and it's itunes and 'take' music from there to our device?

hope that make sense, never dabbled with apple before.

Awesome, was going to ask where people downloaded their stuff from, just bought a tablet and this'll do nicely :thumbgrin

Hey man, I just have one iPod sync'd to my mac. The rest of the houses devices (ipods, ipad, iphones) I just connect them and drag n drop whatever I see fit for the kids. Not had any problems with that approach.

You can also stream from the main mac, I don't bother with this option as I don't leave my computer on all the time as it helps them last far longer.

I also just took my whole digital library from my back up drive to my mac laptop via FireWire. Nice and easy too.

I don't use iCloud other than by default with the auto iphone back ups and mail sync as I have a mac email address too. The mac website is decent for tutorials on what stuff like that does and what you can do with it.

You can set up home sharing so you stream or pull down files to devices.

So, aye, you can have the main mac that everyone can connect to to pull music down to their devices. Just don't have it set to sync because then your whole library will go to the device. Unless that's what you want? But I get the impression you all want to pick and choose.

Hope that kinda answers your questions!...

Yes it does Kris, thanks mate

Bit off topic, sorry, but wow, nineties nostalgia for nurds! That used to be the topic of the day, does it make a difference if you leave them on overnight or turn them off instead? Some used to say it was good for it to stay on, can't remember why though.

So it is now proven beyond doubt? Kinda makes sense too, I would say...

(and justifies 20 years o' putting the bggers off every f'n night...!)

Well, this is just my personal perspective, having had computers for years and always switching them off, even during the day, my computer's hard drives last far longer than any of my mates that leave their computers on.

It's not scientific, it's just plain personally experienced first hand proof. That's good enough for me!

Will they work in Serato??

Aye, man, of course. They're MP3s, so it doesn't matter where they come from, they'll work in any app that can cope with MP3s or on any computer at all. It's a universal file type that works across platforms.

Used the site, and for an old git like me there's some great stuff on there - and dirt cheap too.

Totally. I got some totally obscure jazz on there that I have vinyl for but can't be arsed ripping. Easier to pay 10p a track than spend time getting a good sound. Cause I would get totally anal about it.

This is stuff that iTunes don't even bother to list.

And the general popular music is insanely cheap too. Compared with iTunes, sometimes a 10th of the price, maybe less.

Only downside seems to be most of the files arent 320kbps.

That's interesting. I'll check it out. Is there an option to have higher quality?

Dunno, though i have found at least 10 rare underground G Rap lps i need and have been after since back in the day, and on 320. Good man!!

Aye but it's Jazz mate innit danniiR

If you don't give jazz a go, man; you're massively missing out.

They (iTunes) do list jazz, only the obvious $#@! though.

Jazz is the last refuge of the untalented. Jazz musicians enjoy themselves more than anyone listening to them does.

Ha! Displaying zero musical knowledge there. All the hip hop classics you know, love & own? Born through jazz & funk.

Hip hop, reggae, classical, pop, r&b, d&b everything influenced by jazz.

Rocket in the early 80s? Herbie Hancock jazz crossover.
I know you got soul? Originally Bobby Byrd
Electric relaxation? Ronnie Foster's Mystic brew
Peter piper? Bob James' Take me to mardi grass.

All the early samples by Bambara, grandmaster flash etc. we're all from Jazz and jazz funk records. Moreso jazz funk cause that's where the sweet beats & amazing rhythms were at.

Freestyle rapping is so inherently a jazz approach to music that to argue otherwise is to ignore the facts, kinda like a Gunt. (May have gone too far with that one)...

The Shadows have had more influence on Hip Hop than Jazz. Bam, Kool Herc et al never used Jazz, jazz has no breaks bar a handful of records. Jazz only came into hip hop via sampling esp during the horn sampling craze period and via bands like ATCQ or Gang Starr. Rapping comes from "the dozens" and probably predates that, its been around forever. If David Guetta sampled a Mingus horn would that make EDM a jazz influenced genre.

FWIW i bought a few jazz records to try and get into it, it failed. Id rather listen to some Chopin.

m not a gunt, Beefy is though.

You've either chose to ignore or you missed me stating jazz funk. Man, bam and all the originators absolutely used jazz funk & funk.

Shadows = apache. One of the best breaks but one of millions. James brown, jazz funk as they come, and with a break like Funky Drummer can be attributed influence as much if not more so than the Apache break.

The boakworthy horn sampling in the 80s can GTF. That's the problem with a lot of people's perception of jazz; they think is all reverbed wanky sax solos.

Guetta can GTF an aw. I agree with your statement re him sampling Charlie Mingus. What I'm saying is the originators of hip hop and rap were all influenced by jazz and the influence in the form of sampling, progressions & freestyle are there for all to see.

Also, Beat poetry & jazz poetry very, very similar to rapping.

Some folk just don't like a genre, that's cool, but I often find its specifically which jazz folk have been exposed to that causes misconceptions and that there're artists and albums folk will totally dig.

Jazz Funk?? So not Jazz then, a hybrid. Bams favourite break was Honky Tonk Woman, and iirc his top 10 featured no Jazz. All the early breaks were straight up funk or soul. Jazz, jazz funk etc only became big when it became the thing to dig for rare beats for samples mid 80s onwards.

Maybe you missed my point on rapping, it has been around BEFORE Jazz, hell "Moses was rapping to God" (copyright Bam). Jazz has many parallels with HH but it was no major influencing force. Reggae mcing was also an influence, its Herc we can thank for that.

Jazz has had more of an influence on Turntabalism, Q Bert especially.

OOO my new Quasimoto lp just came, maybe i do like some jazz. :giggle:

Jazz funk is not a subgenre, it's a type of classification of jazz where we have breaks & Rhodes ripe for the sampling.

I don't think you can argue that rapping is something that evolved separately in a vacuum, missing out the birth of jazz only to be brought to prominence after jazz was using that approach and also rapping all over with jazz poetry which is essentially rapping. As good rap is too, in my opinion.

Must listen to that Quasimoto jazz offering ;)

Funny Ebay jazz funk listing from ages ago....

ou are bidding on a collection of 50 (approx) 12" singles and LPs of crap music.

My sister found these in her attic last weekend, where they has been sat gathering dust for the last couple of decades. They used to belong to her ex-husband, who is one of the biggest arseholes ever to draw breath. I never liked the wanker, and based my initial antipathy towards him on his taste in music. Not to put too fine a point on it, he was that most contemptible form of pond life, a Jazz Funker. This meant that as well as shit taste in music, he had appalling taste in clothes too. Pringle jumpers, pleated Farrahs, shoes that looked like pasties, white socks, revolting shirts and a comical wedge-cut hairdon't. Add to this 80s fashion horrorshow a Ford Capri and Super Mario-style moustache underlining his bulbous nose, and you get an object lesson in twatdom. No wonder Northern Soul fans (and everyone else) treated the Jazz Funk fans with sneering comntempt.

I couldn't comprehend what on earth my usually sensible sister could possibly see in the pillock. In vain I pleaded with her to send him packing. My argument that his hankering for Earth Wind & Fire records and attendance at soul weekenders made him a poor choice of mate was waved away as the rantings of a callow youth. She felt my reasoning was unsound.

Reader, she married him.

He made her life miserable for a few years with his moping, moody belligerence (and playing horrendous records like these). He told her lies and generally behaved like a platinum c*nt. Then he dumped her for his mistress when my sister was four months pregnant.

It's now nearly 20 years later and I would still like to take a meat tenderizer to his face. But his most horrendous crime, worse than wiring up my granny's shower so it was electrically live, worse even than his infidelity or the awful way he treated my sister, was the fact that he actually liked the abomination known as Jazz Funk. Here is the evidence. What a bastard.

Well, I suppose I'd better tell you what's for sale, though why you would actually want to own this dreck is beyond me. It's basically music for people who have a deep-seated hatred of music and want to inflict their pain on the world. But here goes nothing.

That is truly the greatest eBay listing I have ever read!

Anyone that's obsessed with any specific genre at the expense of all others is a prize plum. Particularly if they think it makes them more intelligent than others or as some kind of chosen one because they 'get it' and the plebs with they're immature disdain don't.
