England are rubbish

It' a relief that, having watched that match tonight, that mob aren't going to win the world cup to ram it down our throats for another 40 years:phew

Easy group though (or should be for them). You'd expect them to win the rest of their matches. Mind you, if tonight's performance is anything to go by....

That sorta implies they have finished going on about the last time...which they haven't.

I do dread to think what would happen if they did win, I mean them kicking their way to the Rugby world cup was bad enough to deal with.

Actually, I didn't think it was as bad as it is with the football. At least they won that fair & square without the help of a Russian linesman:MG

Oh certainly it doesn't compare at all to the 1966s crap, but it's the only similar thing in my living memory...and as a rugby fan I did see the whole kicking their way to victory thing as pretty wank, but then I wouldn't have cared if it hadn't been engerland doing it.
:giggle:

Which is nice :worthy

I'd like them to win the WC tbh. I actually think pound for pound they can match most teams. Problem, and it has been for a while is they are in the main terrific individuals, but appear stifled to their normal game whilst playing in internationals.

I watched them all through the qualifyers and hope they do very well.

Much better than the fucking Glasgow football association. You know, the guys resposible for us Jocks laughing at Englands foibles (sp) when really, we should be fucking there!!! However, we will continue to play shite rangers (in the main) and celtic players to get them as many caps as possible. Bog standard shite eg Mcculloch, or ancient pish eg Weir. Great.

We end up not qualifying for the big occassions.

Again.

So lets get behind engerland for the big win. We have been fighting round the world shoulder to shoulder for more than 200 years. Lets support them at the world cup.

England should have won that game comfortably last night on chances created and possession. An awful goalkeeper blunder gave the USA a draw, but England only have themselves to blame. I actually thought they played quite well overall. They had great performances from Gerrard (as usual). Johnson, Lennon, and Heskey. Rooney as usual flattered to deceive on the big occasion, though I feel he will get better as the tournament progresses.

I think England will win their next two games and top the group. I also think they will improve as the campaign moves on.

The big winners today were Mr Hills and Mr Ladbrokes.

And anyone wise enough to put a few prices up in betfair :yeah:

It seemed obvious?

I can still see them making the semis. They've some midfield. And I'd take Rooney above Messi in my team? Rooney is just superb imho?

Not a penny on them getting beaten even. Didn't have to.

Brazil to win WC now.

And I'm buying Hibs.

Well, the stats I saw had 16 to 11 shots off target in england favour, 8 - 4 on target in their favour, and 54% - 46% possession.

Far from a dominant performance looking at the game or the stats. Not to mention the US probably had the best chances to score a 2nd.

I agree. They are absolutely awful! When will the general populace waken up to the fact these guys are an over-hyped, self-important, vastly overpaid bunch of imposters! Let's not forget that they have a top manager, facilities and treatment that royalty might expect. The only thing missing is genuine technical ability.

There's some technique there maybe not as much as some teams (spain) but I think the barrier is more mental that anything else - the pressure their media and fans put them under is immense and the lynch mob mentality that pounces on any failure (e.g. beckham's kick, green's fumble) is hardly making things easier for their players. England could win the wc but they wont thanks to their fans and the media. :yams:

Your quote reads very similer to what all of the English camp were saying straight after the final whistle.

No one has pointed out England's vunrubility in defence - the USA had the best two chances in the game and yes England were the better team but surley that was to be expected and of course they will be expected to win their next two games but the problems will arrise when they have to play a half decent team in the KO stages.

To echo EGB - England are rubbish.

Luckily I had this one down for a draw in the pub predictor so at the very least I got a free pint:boozy

I had a fiver double on the States at 6/1 and Scotland rugby at 11/4, but the great Green goalie defied me with a brilliant save!

Did anyone see the build up to the game when they were speaking to USA and England fans?

I couldn't believe it. The USA fans were FAR more irritating than the Engerlish, and bizarrely it was almost like they knew what they were talking about. IMO Englands '66 gloats would be nothing compared to what the yanks would subject the world to in the unlikely event they were ever to win the WC.

My auldest laddie had a fiver on a 1-1 draw.

As he's up at Rockness, I had the pleasure in phoning him after the game to tell him that his bet had come up and if he ever has the pleasure of bumping in to Robert Green to buy him a pint.

I agree with you....

However I was commenting mainly on England's overall performance last night which IMO should have been good enough to win the game. Green's error had a major effect on the whole team and you could see the confidence being affected thereafter. The weaknesses you mention re the defence and the goalkeeper I have been saying for months. They are not strong enough defensively and they have too many half fit players in their squad to be good enought to win the WC. They also rely far too much on the volatile and unpredictable Rooney, a player who is given so much praise and rated so highly and yet has never really produced the goods in the high pressure matches for England. Time will tell, and as I said I think England will improve as the WC goes on and may reach the semis. The first game is never really an indicator as to how a team will do in a tournament like this.

Aye but we don't have to share a border with the Yanks or be force-fed their media

England got in behind the US numerous times on the flanks, thankfully the final ball or I believe the lack of a clinical finisher who can pull off their marker to find space cost them dearly. The goalkeeping error at that level was unacceptable, Heskey worked so hard but lacks the quality and composure to be world class, England will qualify for the later stages but will find one of the usual suspects too good. They horns are doing my napper in, but the pitches are immaculate.
Oh aye England are average, their media are rubbish.

What I find surprising is the lack of forward options for England. Take away Rooney and what do you have?

It cost them yesterday, great pace on the flanks, solid in midfield, very good full backs.
Goalkeeper and poacher required Rooney is exceptional but is he 100% fit?

England were absolute crap last night they got the ideal start and then done fuck all for the rest of the game and resorted to a hoof up field to Heskey,Capello will have to go back to the drawing board as there were major problems with that side last night.Does he keep faith with the keeper,if King is doubtful with Carragher and Terry they have no pace in central defence,Midfield is a nightmare Gerrard and Lampard seem to have no defined roles and did not dominate like people expect, has he the balls to drop one of them i dont think so,also not much end product on the wings and Heskey is not the answer up front.

Don't hold back Theo. :laff:

Two average teams slogging it out although England were slightly better keeping the USA under pressure in spells. I hope England go through only to be utterly humiliated by one of the better teams.

Would it not be better to see them humiliated by one of the "lesser" teams?:rascal:
