Maybe just a wee diversion on my part here, from the doom and gloom in the cooshed ( the Hibs chat is quite cheery 🤪)
But Elton, a very talented musician he may be, and without doubt I very much like a few of the tunes he has sung ( I also can’t stand a lot of them !)
But has there ever been a bigger diva, who deserves to be slapped with a big wet trout multiple times?
Just comes across as a very unpleasant, false, self entitled little prick.
Anybody get the teeth itch from him ?

My dad worked in a casino Elton John frequented long ago. My dad said he was a decent guy and spent time chatting. I think that was code for he tipped well 😆

Definitely a diva.

Not many bad tunes as far as I'm concerned.

I’m not a fan and don’t pay the man much attention so maybe I’ve missed something, but he seems okay to me. A bit of a diva like Jack says, but fecks sake compared to younger successors he’s a picture of restraint.

I've seen him once with the ex missus and it was quite a decent show. I respected him stopping a song half way through to tell the front row to "Put there fucking phones down and enjoy the moment" Nae fucker did mind you and the show carried on.

Anyone at his solo show at the Playhouse '75 maybe? Think it was televised too. That was OK.
Like almost every other band/singers I like the early stuff and gradually go off them.
Glam had it's moment. Is Elton John glam or just flamboyant?
Not for me any longer.

An artist I've only started to appreciate in the last few years really. Like @Bangkokhibby says, the early stuff is where it's at.

By the time I was in my formative years he was well into his overproduced adult-contemporary era and about as far from cool as you could get. The sort of artist my gran put on in the car. He kind of looked like her by then too.

I'm a fan....in my opinion he's a fantastic musician, songwriter and live performer.
Seen him three times. Playhouse in the mid 80's (supported by Nik Kershaw !), Vegas in 2004 (Caesars Palace....the Red Piano show !), and er..Easter Road in 2005.
All three shows fantastic. He's the most successful British solo artist of all time.

Yes, he's a bit of a Diva, I also think he's a really funny quick witted guy when being interviewed.
Co-written with Bernie Taupin some fabulous songs, mainly during the 70's and 80's.
Also provided some of my better karaoke numbers over the years !

I’m like you here. I had no doubt heard tiny dancer and the likes all my life at weddings and whatnot, but only recently really connected the likes with Mr John.

I grew up associating him with Candle in the wind, I’m still standing and other such putrid output. I now think his early work has some merit; not stuff I’d sit and listen to but decent enough fair for slopping pints to; at weddings and whatnot.

Man cannot live by Joy Division alone. Nor, as my wife impressed upon me when it was relevant, will ‘Anarchy in the UK’ ever be wedding reception fare for most.

I heard he was a fan of backgammon too…

I'm not an Elton John fan by any means. I do like 'Are You Ready for Love' though as it has a quite soulful feel to it.

Always liked the weird, stunted beat of Benny and the Jets (would sing along but always got the timings wrong!)...

Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting was a standard at the youth disco...

Yello Brick Road - top melody

Abd bizarrely I still associate a wee chunk of my life with Daniel. That electric piano instantly brings back the shoe shop I worked part time in where it was constantly on the radio as I tried to get talking to the wee stoater assistants that worked upstairs, while serving the likes of (urgh) John Grieg doonstairs! Yoof!

Elton John's music is not something I would ever put on but occasionally one of his songs comes on the car radio and it is bland and unoffensive poppy stuff to me. It doesn't invoke any feelings of rage at least like say Maroon 5 or something. But for pure nostalgia, those of us of a certain age will surely remember the summer of 1976 when Elton John and Kiki Dee released "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". What a summer that was. That song was at number one for weeks and was never off the radio. Portobello open air pool was my second home that year.

Maroon 5 make Coldplay look like Motorhead.

Possibly the worst band there has ever been? Am thus appropriately named.

They did the half time show at the Super Bowl a few years ago and it was the worst. I don't know why but I actually felt sorry for them. They must be utterly deluded thinking that doing that gig was a good move. They are shite. If one of their songs comes on the radio, I switch the station quicker than Grasshopper snatching the pebble from Master Kan in Kung Fu.

This, this, thisity this. ⬆️⬆️

Moves Like Jagger is a crime against music.
I quite like that song, great disco rhythm guitar that you hear best in the intro. Good dance beat. A reasonably catchy single all round, perhaps bit too much vocoder but wth?

Don't have a clue bout rest of their stuff, why is this one a crime exactly?

If nowt else then because they are maroon is enough to hang them and then feed them to animals that scran folk.

😤

Elton John — absolute legend. Classics like Rocket Man and Tiny Dancer? Or there’s the Lion King soundtrack era? His career has spanned so many decades and styles.

He’s still rocking at 78 and apparently he’s going blind to boot. 👏👏👏

Not my cuppa tea but I can appreciate good music when I hear it.

He’s an original and there’s no many now a days that can claim that.
