Edinburgh roads

Rush hours can be bad, but no danger is the city, even the city centre, gridlocked all day. Parking charges and semi-0decent public transport certainly help, allowing trades professionals to get around the place relatively easily. I'm up near Lauriston Place just now and you could park 50 white vans if you wanted.
Aye but how long can they park for mate as that's a big part of the problem.

Sometimes white van man needs to park all day.

I was working in Chester St last year. Job lasted 9 weeks on a full refurbishment. It was about £8 an hour to park, Prices have went up to about £9 an hour there now. I work 8.30-3.30 every day.
So at the time it was £56 a day, £280 p/w so the cost over 9 weeks would’ve been £2500…..
I was running the job so i took van first day, loaded all my gear and material on it then bussed it, but the amount of hassle having to get material delivered as you know there is always stuff you need that you don’t have due to the nature of the job, it was a nightmare, instead of nipping away to paintshed and back, 15 minutes all in, was having to wait till someone could drop it off, more needless emissions, or get it delivered. And there is always bits and bobs in your van that you now need but don’t have etc. it puts time and wasted effort for people other side of the town to bring you the gear or tools. Most trades on the job were in same boat, mostly subbies who would be mad to pay that every day.
In essence it could easily have added about £15k price on the job simply for parking for about 6/7 guys, and that’s just the guys who had vans for their gear, others simply get a bus with no hassle.
Imagine a contractor trying to explain why £15k parking charges were added to the job!
Waiting on deliveries for joiners, sparks, plumbers, painters, needless journeys by guys on different jobs and the extra time because of it all… not to mention the frustration of not being able to just get in with the job

And the joys of the LEZ. But but you can buy a new van.

Like we all have thousands of spare £'s just laying there waiting to be spent.

But the cost just gets added onto the customers bill so all is good.

Unless it’s an Mp’s gaff and they question it. Can you not cycle to work? 🤬🤬🤬

But over time that will change and our kids will look back thinking WTAF?

The thing is that older engines pump out particulate matter. In diesel engines the particulates are really small, which means they penetrate the lungs more easily. This has really bad health implications especially for kids. So something does need to get done about it.

Agree Archie. But not everyone has thousands of £'s laying around.

I would think the majority of bairns in Edinburgh live in the schemes yet there seems to be no concern for their wellbeing.

Let's be honest a lot has to do with the tourist trade as well regarding the LEZ

Are you honestly suggesting that ECC cares more about visitors than those that actually pay? Shirley no...

Heading up to Penicuik yesterday morning along Station Road the traffic was heaving.

Turned onto Lasswade Road and very little traffic. Just past the Lasswade Junction we seen why.

A cyclist was going along with his hands in his pockets whilst the traffic was nose to tail all the way back to the Loanheid back road.

Fuckin idiot. Id have had zero sympathy if the fucker had fell in front of a car.

Cyclists should be banned from travelling into town when folk are trying to get to their graft.

Kaimes crossroads. Temp lights and roads being dug up.

Aye loads of hi viz jackets all standing looking serious.

Mount Vernon is closed to traffic. And it's three way lights at the junction

4 way lights at the Kaimes Crossroads. Heavy traffic backing up coming into town from Loanheid.

A real nightmare around there just now, was stuck for half an hour on Howdenhall Rd last week taking the kids to swimming lessons at Loanhead, in the end they missed the lesson. And Lasswade Rd not much better as it has temporary traffic lights just now too.

It's an absolute mess Kev.

And its fairly quiet today with the schools being off.

We need a political party to say we love our cars and the state of the roads is unacceptable and will be a proper priority. All over the city folk are driving on roads at best not fit for purpose as the council of *&*^ spend tens of millions on bike lanes only used by Deliveroo, JustEat and Uber eats. I fuckin despise modern life.

You know how they have a day when dafties pay fortune's to shoot grouse could we no do the same with cyclists?

We could have it on the 6th February. Call it the glorious 6-2.

No real bullets obviously 🙄

How are things at Cameron Toll these days. Taking Mrs Wishbone for an appointment at the ERI on Tursday morning and usually go via Cameron Toll/Old Dalkeith Road (when this access is open) or I have to go via Liberton. Went online but only found old info.

Go Old Dalkeith Road mate. There are road works in Gracemount that's causing problems elsewhere. The road from CT to the hossie was ok the last I heard

Check this as well.

Just came past Cameron Toll, very quiet.

They're at it again. Dalkeith Road has traffic lights halfway down from Ferniehill causing long queues in both directions. Just read Moredunvale road closed tae buses and they're being diverted down Dalkeith Road from Ferniehill Road adding tae the already long queues.
Couldnae have waited until 1 set of works was done, useless cvnts.

Road works at Liberton Hospital as well.

And my grandson said Drum Street has roadworks as well.

Think that's bad? Due to huge roadworks on the main artery in from Amsterdam, I have to walk or bicycle about half a Km in the wrong direction first before aiming for my nearest supermarket over a horrible old, cobbled uneven road/bike path for a further few hundred yards and in this heatwave, I'm fkd by the time I get there and deid when I get back home.

No that I'm complaining like :52::coffee1::huffy:
