Edinburgh roads

Having just returned from a weekend away, I promise not to complain about the state of Aberdeenshire’s roads again (for a wee while). The drive through Granton to Musselburgh was something else. The roads down that way were never the best but they’re in a shocking state just now. Glad I don’t make that journey often.

Just been reading that Cameron Toll is closed again to transport heading on Old Dalkeith Road out of the city.

The report is just saying its a police incident.

Just been doon and back up, Polis at the hoose at entrance tae the tip. Hoose gates taped off.

Usual gangland warfare I’m told
Guns being used in Niddrie this morning, nail salon (ffs) getting petrol bombed in Albert Street apparently a revenge attack for something I've not heard about.

I saw the army bomb squad in Leith a couple or so weeks ago with a few police but they might have just been dropping into Storries for lunch 🤔 cause there was no media coverage.

I think this might be a step up from the usual.

Apparently a shooting down in Pilton this morning as well

Here ye go folks. The latest list of road misery in Edinburgh....

Was up at your home town on Friday C and passed 3 sets of temp lights. Naebody at one of them, only the guys that sit (and sleep) in the vans in case anything goes wrong wi the lights at another and men working at the other.

And everything will be shut down again in a few years as they replace the number 8 bus route with a tram line

Are they the worst in the UK? Potholes everywhere. Was planning to start cycling again when the clocks go forward but having second thoughts as even driving on them is hazardous. The roads on Fallout 4 are in better nick.
Discuss.
I'm not sure what's worst, the pot holes or the endless queue of roadworks

And the first delay comes. Now I can concede the tram will link the Western General with the RIE.

But the numbers 24 and 38 go directly from the Western to the RIE. Soo.......

Edinburgh trams: Consultation on North-South route delayed until after school summer holidays.

The cooncil have nae money now, they’re no going tae go intae debt for a vanity project shirley ?

Na mate. They wouldn't do that. Would they?

How many cycle lanes could be built using the trams money?

Apparently a shooting down in Pilton this morning as well
On Monday, a defence lawyer of my acquaintance advised me that this is all about revenge on a drug crime family, the head of which is currently spending time at HMP. I don't recall the name he gave, though, but it's a client of his, so I assume he knows.

Just had a wee heads up Dalkeith Road is closed off down by the council tip and past the cemetery both ways.

Do you know how for how long Jimmy ?
I don't mate. A friend of mine was heading up town about half an hour ago and the road was blocked both ways.

I can't see anything in the media though. If I hear anything I'll let you know

I well remember the last time when in a bit of pure spite the council dug up nearly every main artery into Edinburgh.

I doubt we will get a vote this time though because I think we would tell them to do one. And that's not the correct answer .......

Edinburgh congestion charge to be explored, 20 years after previous scheme rejected.

Councillors agreed to start conversatiosn with Glasgow and other local authorities about a potential charge for cars entering the city.

But some councillors feel that the time is now appropriate to start exploring such a scheme again.

Green councillor Chas Booth, speaking at the council's Transport and Environment Committee, said: “There is an opportunity today to start a conversation about road user charging. Let’s start that conversation.”

At present, London is the only city in the UK to have introduced a congestion charge. Introduced in 2003, the scheme charges motorists £15 to enter the core of the city.

And that's yellow lines being put down one side of the Avenue.

All the drive ways have double yellows now.

Na mate. Between driveways though. So instead of three cars cramming into the space there will only be one now.

I've expected it on the Avenue for a while because of the buses.

Correction Billy it is double yellows. For some reason a space has been left outside mine.

But the auld wummin who stayed here before me had a disabled parking place right outside.

The driveway is free though for Scott or Paul to park their vans.
