Are they the worst in the UK? Potholes everywhere. Was planning to start cycling again when the clocks go forward but having second thoughts as even driving on them is hazardous. The roads on Fallout 4 are in better nick.
Discuss.

Probably are the worst. Talking of extending the tram costing fortunes but cannae fix the roads.

Fife are the same fuckin disgusting and with low profiles you dont half feel it when you hit one
Can't complain really here, infrastrucure incl stand-alone bike paths pretty well-maintained 😙🤭

But that is predominantly left-wing Haarlem. The town councils do morein general I think than in UK but do spend an allocated budget.

However, I lived in neighbouring Heemstede for a short while a few years ago, a gaff in a big posh house - Heemstede is one of the most well-off town councils in NL and has a predominantly right wing council - their roads are not great but the pavements are almost unwalkable!

So well off are they that they neglect the pavements - because they are all rich enough to *step out of the house straight into the Merc and drive off, splashing the poor workers on the sidewalks.

*I may have exaggerated a bit there tho not much!

Even the Proclaimers mention the state of Edinburgh's roads on their song Streets of Edinburgh.
The roads really are in an appalling state though in this city.
Can never understand why the council can't get the basics right, like refuse collection times, fixing potholes on the roads, and clearing sivers. I remember as a bairn watching the siver man coming round and clearing all the drains and sivers.

Fascinatin the siver-clearing. Ma parents used to warn us no to go near them (which we did all the time) or we would catch some fever or other but damned if I ca remembr the name? Anyone remember it?

About to get a major overhaul seeing as the world cycling road race championship is here in September!

As a seasoned cyclist not only does it go past the pink bus shelter but Macleod St must be one of the worst.I remember reading an Evening News report about ten years ago stating that Edinburgh's roads were rated 2nd worse in the UK.Doubt very much they have gone up the league,in fact they've probably been relegated.

I’ve always said, Edinburgh council boast of an international city, but have a small village mentality. solely based on tourists as nothing for the locals. they have no idea on how to run this city,

Why would the council fix the roads to make using your car a more comfortable experience when their intent is to stop you driving in the city in the first place. The time is coming very soon when you will be paying a fortune to drive into a city. You will be forced on to public transport, forced to walk or cycle to make you healthier. Private car ownership will be effectively banned in the great ‘green’ revolution.
On a more positive note, I get my bus pass next month 😁

I think it's as bad elsewhere. Every street I drive on has holes.
I thought it lucky in that there is a Councillor living in the next street who pushed to have the potholes( in our area) patched up about a year ago.
The patched bits are fine, but the adjoining parts are lifting and causing even bigger potholes.
Worst of all we have speed humps and the holes are around the base of a few of them.
Like a slalom for cars.

The 4 years I stayed down south in Gloucester it was noticeable in how much better condition the roads were. But is it more down to volume of traffic or is it just a failing of the cooncil. St John’s Road is/was the most polluted road in the U.K. IIRC

Where to start. Most councillors have no background in running anything so no wonder we have issues. So many roads around craigentinny,Northfield etc totally relaid in the last year yet are falling apart. Is is the materials. Is it the guys doing it. God knows why we did the trams as its taken so much money that could be used elsewhere. In fairness to the council they have been screwed by the tory govt in Westminster with cuts in grants but that doesn't excuse total mismanagement.
When you go abroad, especially Germany the roads are well looked after. Prince's Street looks so run down. Edinburgh is still a fabulous city with the seven hills but we aren't helping with the mess of so many things

Avoid Moredunvale Road if anyone uses it.

My mate just phoned to say it's closed off from the auld Jolly upwards.

So the 8 and the 400 will be diverted as well as the cars.

Fire Brigade and bizzies in attendance at the flats i presume.

The 8 and the 400 are diverted.

The 8 heads to the hossie via Lady Road.

The 400 heads to the airport via Ferniehill Drive

Edinburgh CC have said they’re spending £20M this financial year on potholes, I’d like to know where, certainly not in my neighbourhood.

This is apparently the bee's knees for filling pot holes....

The UK’s first-ever Multipatcher is part of Kiely Bros’ innovative solution to revolutionise pothole repairs and road surface dressing.

This new technology can simultaneously handle all road maintenance tasks, from cleaning and preparing potholes, to delivering high-quality finished road surfaces.

Originally imported from Australia, the Kiely Multipatcher is the only machine in the UK than can carry out pothole repairs and patching at both the front and rear of the vehicle.

This dual function sets it apart from other road maintenance equipment and increases its productivity.

This makes it unique in capability and efficiency as the Multipatcher can patch approximately 30 metres of road in under 3 minutes.

There's a video on here.....

Indeed. They seem to be spending a lot of time and money widening pavements around here as part of their LTN programme but the potholes remain.

Will Edinburgh get one of these wonder machines ?, are they rented or hired too.

There’s tons of them.
Sounds like a good deal, about a pound per pot hole.
Fuck knows why they’re installing them though.
Bloody Council.

The video shows broken surfaces being dressed with chippings, not a pot hole in sight. The Edinburgh roads have pot HOLES that need a lot more than surface repair. A road is generally made up of rolled/pounded hardcore, a layer of concrete then tarmac/chippings or a variation of similar aggregates. Holes need repairing using the same method of build up. This doesn't happen. Cheap fixes happen. Backhanders are given. . Fraud on a massive scale. Corruption on your doorstep. Nobody fined or jailed. Everyone scores except drivers and taxpayers.

Builders and councillors taking the piss. Just for a change!

But I'm not bitter.

Instead of filling pot holes which fuck your car suspension the clowncil this year installed speedbumps every 20 meters along the full length of Northfield Broadway thereby further fucking my motors suspension.
Only the main arterial routes in Edinburgh don't have speedbumps or many pot holes which is probably why I had to replace broken rear springs and suspension units in our two motors this summer after having to replace the front springs and suspension units in both motors the previous summer.
To think I laughed at all those city living helmets with their chelsea tractors complete with upgraded suspension. Whose laughing now!

Transport minister on GMB this morning discussing pot holes and explained the billions being made available for general road upkeep. The talk was mainly about pot holes but he made clear this money was for all road work and local councils would be responsible for it's allocation. The councils will need to provide monthly reports showing how much has been spent and what in particular it has been spent on so they will be accountable to the electorate.
What they should be accountable for is who gets the contracts, who inspects and passes the work, who is allowed to continue providing below standard work, connections between councillors and contractors, the direction that the gravy train is flowing in.

As a driver this problem/scandal is (literally) hammered home to me every single day of the year. I'm sure my hair loss is partly due to the number of times my head hits the headlining of my car on a daily basis.

Allegedly the speed bumps were put in to deter lorry drivers going down Northfield. Why the feck would they do that. I can live with councillors not being experts but being dafties gets my goat. Was in rome last week. No pot holes. No 20mph bollocks. Mental drivers but guess what. Folk just on with their lives. Councillors thinking they know better than everybody else is scarily ridiculous. Let's us choose what's dangerous. Grrrrrrrr.
