The man brought to you by the creators of Wallace and Gromit is promoting plug-in solar panels, soon to be available in supermarkets. The same muppet likes to remind us how the oil markets work and tells us that producing more oil won’t keep our energy bills down. No shit, Ed. But keep a few thousand people in work which in turn will help shipping, engineering, transport, retail, hospitality etc and feed families, reducing the benefits burden? Is this really a “Labour” Government?

I do wonder if there's a place for a nationalised company sending gas and oil to UK energy production direct on a cost recovery basis to reduce our vulnerability to global markets....either that or tax on profits in North sea being recycled into price control. While there is no significant national dividend from North sea (beyond jobs) it's hard to make the case....solar surely has a place in the mix

When the oil companies judge wells to be “not economically viable” to produce further they’ll simply switch the lights off. Once we have none to export we’re helpless IMHO. I think it’s ludicrously short-sighted not to exploit what we have whilst transitioning to greener energy.

Norway meanwhile continues to drill exploration and production wells tied to existing infrastructure right on the border of UK waters.
