Dublin pubs??

Alright guys, hope your all well

Im coming over in the new year for a few days and we're looking at pubs to visit. Where's the best place to watch Scottish football (Setanta)?, hopefully Hibs will be on as its Scottish Cup weekend when we're over. Also, can you suggest good "traditional" pubs with Irish music (inc rebel music) in central Dublin (not the Temple Bar area!).

For the Hibs matches all the Dublin based Hibees watch them in the CZECH INN on Essex Street, beside Temple Bar. That'll definitely be best place for you to go. :thumbgrin
 
Cheers mate. I did see that Hibbies were using this pub. We are gonna Czech it out anyway. Maybe see you in there if Hibs are on tv that weekend.

What dates are you over? Im back in Scotland from christmas eve till the 6th...Depends what you are looking for in a bar? As you can imagine plenty of choice..

Pubs in Baggot St are quite good & lively..Thats still nice & central..I tend to go to Keoghs off Grafton St, O'Donoghues on Suffolk St, the Globe or Georges St, Sine on the Quays..In fact I do try to try a new one every week or so so this could be a long list...If you want decent live trad music get yourself to the Cobblestone of an evening they have trad sessions every night..Its on Smithfield Market (where I live)..Best bar for tha sort of stuff in town..Also a cracking boozer..
 
Cheers guys. Im not over till weekend of the Eire v Italy rugby (1st Feb). Anyone know what Widow Scanlan pub is like?
 
I take it you mean the widow scallans pub google it and make your own mind up,although i think its closed down.

It was a hardcore rebel pub on Pearse Street where a doorman/IRA volunteer was shot dead one night. Too much Celtic sh*te on display for my liking, don't think they liked my Hibs jersey either.

Anyway, it's now no more, demolished. No harm..

Mother Redcaps and the Brazen Head (that sounds like a name for a band! :laff: ) are two boozers near Christchurch that often throw up a good 'ol session.

cheers for the Heads up there mate. Wasnt sure what Scallans was still up to. Been past a few times in the past and it was always closed. Not wanting the Celtic rubbish anyway, but would like to sample a rebel pub or 2 whilst we are there. It is Irish history after all and some of the music is very good (if its your cup of tea, which it is). my mate seems to have a few pubs to check out too. Fancy some trad stuff and loads of good pubs inDublin have that sort of music each day/nigth. Cant wait. Thanks again

Ryans on the edge of the Liffey out by the zoo is great. Its an original victorian pub but doesn't open till 3 superb though
 
Took this from a website when trying to remember the name of The Long Haul. There are some pretty accurate descriptions in my opinion. All old school pubs apart from the last one with my own personal favourites in bold.

Mullligans, Poolbeg Street (some say the best Guinness in Dublin)
Kehoes, South Anne Street (get there before the suits arrive at 5.30pm)
Nearys, Chathnam Steeet (for civilized conversation)
Grogans, South William Street (perfect Saturday afternoon spot)
The International, Wicklow Street (an institution)
The Long Haul, South Great Georges Street
The Upstairs Lounge in the Central Hotel (comfy, cozy)
Sackville Lounge, Sackville St, off OConnell Street (the real McCoy)
The Palace Bar, Fleet Street, Temple Bar (a gem)
The Stags Head, Dame Court
Slattery's, Grand Canal St, they sometimes play trad music but it's been a while since i've been in.

The Garden of Eden (lap dance bar), gotta keep your options open :laff:

The Palace bar on fleet street. Everything a pub should be and possibly my favourite pub of all time. Everyone who goes to Dublin should go in for at least one drink.

Nice one !! will pop in there ! I am over from the 24-27th of this month ! cant wait ! Last time I was there it was the Scottish Cup final and this time its THEM again on the Sunday tho no sure if its on tv..... will be spreading some of the scottish hibee love :wink:

To answer your question specifically, I asked a work colleague who plays in a band and he told me of the following pubs which play traditional music:

My mate took me to some kebab shop on the Monday night after visiting a rather weird nightclub (both at the moment I can't recall the names of but I have sent a text) this kebab shop was rather posh looking well as posh as a kebab shop can look but lamb was horrible ! plus it was in nan bread instead of a pitta bread ! whats all that about !!! :dunno:

That sounds like Zaytoon. They serve their kebabs in khoubz bread :smug:

The salmon kebab there is a very fine thing indeed

Mmmm sounds good ! didn't see that on the menu thingy but to be fair it was fairly late and I was rather drunk :tuttut: was good as ye get a meal deal with chips and juice tho !! :bbb:
