The 'King of Twang' Duane Eddy passed away aged 89 on Tuesday.
He had hits in the late 50' and early 60's.
He influenced the likes of George Harrison, Lee Marvin, the Ventures, John Entwhistle, John Fogerty, Bruce Springsteen and many other.
I remember his records being played in my house as a bairn.

This is one these ones where I am surprised to learn he didn't die decades ago.

Way before my time but everyone knows Peter Gunn, even the young team today. My lassie asked me what it was not long ago and it's one of her favourites.

I'm more of a Link Wray guy but Lee Hazlewood produced all the early Duane Eddy stuff which is interesting.
He was also in the '68 biker film The Savage Seven which is a no-bad counter culture movie and I loved the Art of Noise cover of "Peter Gunn" posted above.

However, growing up in the late 70's Duane Eddy mostly reminds me of the Sid Snot character that Kenny Everett created.
Most of the sketches ran with the Peter Gunn riff in the background.

I must admit it did surprise me that he had just died.I too thought he had died some time ago.
