The socialists never seem to cover up their corruption as well as the capitalists.

Or maybe the system is just loaded in favour of the capitalists

Or maybe socialism produces more corruption?

I mean it clearly does when its actually a socialist system; not necessarily because the participants are more prone to it (though those systems always attract those who are) but because of the way it operates.

Hatton was a bit of a snake by all accounts - a populist.

Just out of interest - do you think public libraries are a good or a bad thing?

Who is the strange library question aimed at? What's the relevance of that?

If its me as the op, well hell yeah although they're also pretty outmoded these days. But what's it got to do with the price of milk?

I've a lot to thank my local library for. When I started really getting interested in books it was a godsend for me.

Helped pass time as well when I was hiding from the missus

Sorry, not aimed at anyone. It's just I have a theory that when presented with functioning socialism folk are quite positive about its benefits but when it gets corrupted, people think it (socialism) is a bad thing. It's all about implementation isnt it? Back to the OP - I think Hatton showed his true colours in later years - turns out his schtick was all about self interest and money. I guess that's what Purple and Green was suggesting - capitalism makes no secret of the fact that greed is good but when a socialist turns out to out to be be a greedy bastard its all too easy to point the finger.

It's quiet astonishing this....

As if you went through every Politicians accounts....I'm pretty sure 95% would be proven tobe corrupt.

What have libraries got to do with socialism ? I associate socialism more with controlling what people can read.

If you want to call provision of any state services ‘socialism’ then everybody in the world bar a handful of libertarian heidbangers is a socialist. Moreover if you want those services to be sustainably funded, you certainly don’t want socialism. Libraries long predate their provision via the taxpayer, including public libraries - though tax funding made them more widespread.

What I meant in my reply to him is that individuals professing socialism are not necessarily more prone to corruption than capitalists, but socialist systems lend themselves more to corruption. In the context of our society, state expenditure is more amenable to it. Look at the Covid procurement debacles for example.

In the market everyone is scrutinising everyone else to make sure they don’t get ripped off, and then there is third party oversight. Government procurement is pretty rigorous but nevertheless state systems have nothing like the checks and balances and the victims of rip offs are members of the public who don’t have the same ability to scrutinise.

In what way does capitalism make no secret of greed being good?

I'm on the mike.
I'm gonna hip you to the story of the New Third Reich.
It all began down in Munich town and pretty soon
The word started gettin' around.'

How quickly we disregard the widespread corruption of the last bunch of utter *&*^ that ran the country. 🤣

But then, we knew that would happen.

I'm not defending Hatton and Anderson either.
It took 3 or 4 parliaments for the torys tae fuck off the majority of the population , it took labour 3 or 4 months
