Car Hire

I'm getting married in April and currently trying to work out transport for me and the future missus to our reception venue which is about a 5 minute drive from the church.

Some of the prices I've been quoted so far have been pretty steep (£185 was one quote yesterday) but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of alternatives. I thought I'd hire a car myself for a couple of days but that's even more expensive!

Are there any bouncers who are drivers, have a suit and a clean and decent motor that could do something a bit more reasonable?

Congrats on your impending marriage mate. That's a decent request, I used to do that with my old black Mercedes until it died. I did a couple of weddings for mates and it saves a few bob for them. Sadly my mafia staff car is no more otherwise I would agree to do it. Hopefully someone will come up trumps for you.

Cheers, Dub, appreciate the gesture.

It's nipping my heid a wee bit to be honest - we've been pretty creative in keeping the price down in other areas but this is one last sticking point.

Congrats on the impending nuptials John. Did you think about a taxi?

Cheers, Susan. I've emailed City Cabs for a quote ("Prices from just £95!) after the future missus said she liked the idea of a Hackney cab but still...£95 quid for a half hours work?

I understand that the car will be spotless and there's a driver taking time out of his day and whatnot...but ninety five quid! For half an hour?!

Unless there's something I'm missing of course (wouldn't be the first time!)

I blame the ' no ' voters.

Seems to be something , no matter where you live, that firms think people should pay over the odds for.

Extortionate up here too.

Are you saying transportation on someone's wedding day would be cheaper in an independent Scotland?

Are you AngrySalmond on Twitter?

Personally I'd just book a black taxi giving no specifics. Then when the self employed driver appeared at the time you've booked I'd offer him £40 or £50 for the hour & a half you need him for with very little fuel expense.

He/She will grab the arm off you.

Whatabout uber? Can't you specify you want a 'luxury' car?

No idea, but I'll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!

That's not a bad suggestion either! Cheers.

Why not get a friend to go to a car dealer and book a test drive in a top of the range model for a couple of hours?

That's not a bad idea either actually and I've got a mate who pulled a similar stunt before to take his burd on a dirty weekend up North.

Cheers!
