A little bit of advice from somebody on there.
I had never previously thought of myself as a professional matched bettor.
Professionals, in my opinion, were those who relied on an activity in order to live.
But bookmakers regard us along with arbitrage and value players as professionals. They want 'recreational players' - punters who bet for fun who like to win but it not important to them. Such bettors don't question the odds they get or bet in a way that guarantees profit like we do.
Bookies hate us and will not tolerate our approach to betting.
Apparently over 95% of gamblers bet for fun and enjoyment.
I have seen arguments, cursing, banging, smashing of panels, glass windows and doors of betting shops by people who are supposedly betting for the enjoyment it gives them.
Such a small percentage of non-recreational bettors should not make much impact ,if any, on bookmakers profits. But they are greedy. They want it all.
The 'gamble awareness' policy they have reluctantly adopted in order to pacify the gambling commission is a smokescreen.
So yes be careful of getting gubbed. It is easier said than done, though. Bookies now have elaborate software to sort out the type of customer they want.
It has been suggested that sometimes they will promote a stand out price or offer and then gub all who take advantage of it. (e.g Betway. - I have no proof of this).
Another idea is not to withdraw funds as soon as an offer is completed;or if you do withdraw only a portion, as 'professionals' will want to move money around quickly.
So dont use wallets that facilitate that: skrill, neteller, paypal. Use a debit card. It's cheaper to do so anyway.
Do betting that is not connected to an offer. Lay off the bet though and dont overdo it. A small bet now and again is o.k.
Bookies love the mugs who place in-play bets at very poor odds. So do this sparingly - but do it.
None of this is guaranteed to keep your accounts. I would have kept many more of mine if it were -and if I had known what I now know - but I still have some intact and try to use them in the way I have described. I'm hoping they will last longer, at least, as a result.
