No, not a men's health thread...
Just wondering if anyone (a) is as ancient as me and remembers when footballs were composed of a leather casing with an inflatable bladder inside, and (b) can confirm thus was called a filly? Or something like that?
A link to a dictionary would be nice cos haven't found it exactly so far.
Memory jolted by checking what the rim of a bike (don't ask) was called in Dutch. I had come across the word before in the context of bikes but never quite knew it was the rim of a wheel.
In Dutch it's velg and I saw one link to a phillie but further searches were rendered impossible by the fkn Philadelphia Phillies muddying the waters
But I remember leather phillies, now I need to know if it@s related to velg!
