Dexys Get Their Reward With BBC4 Film Premiere. Tomorrow night - Friday 20th.

Nowhere Is Home

2nd ever gig I went to was Dexys. First was The Jam. Kevin Rowland, for me, is one of the musical greats cos he was constantly exploring DIFFERENT themes and genres in music. One of the most passionate performers I've ever seen live.

Adam Ant was a big fan: Word at the time was that this song (Goody Two Shoes) was about Kevin Rowland of Dexys Midnight Runners. The rumor was that Adam was going to join a band led by Rowland, but couldn't accept the stringent rules being set down for band membership. Ant explained that the lyrics, "When I saw you kneeling, crying words that you mean, opening the eyeballs, pretending you're Al Green, Al Green" was inspired by a Dexys Midnight Runners concert he saw in 1981. He said, "When I saw Kevin Rowland sing those words and really get into it, I think it was more honest than anything the Clash had ever done."

It seems like if he wasn't singing about singing artists - singing artists were singing about him.
