So, this 84 day rule, introduced by the Tory's during John Major's reign continued throughout the whole of Labour's reign and still in place today. It truly makes my compassion gland wince. I don't need to make the comparisons. But suffice to say; why the fuck do we keep hitting the weakest hardest?

The Tory's were always self serving ****s but the way Labour followed suit is a travesty.

That's the sickest thing I have ever read, how can any self respecting human being be so sick and ignorant to put families in that position.
But these absolute greedy self servings bastards claim back expenses for toilet roll and their food expenses, 25 a day for breakfast alone....
This country, sorry, these people make me sick man

That`s heartbreaking. I was going to ask how these people sleep at night but i know the answer. They have no conscience or compassion for ordinary folk. No empathy with working people. A ruling elite desperate to keep their position. They make me fuckin sick.

The society that's been created around us by politicians is depressing to say the least, and the inaction by most (including me) to do something about it equally depressing. An acceptance and shrugging of shoulders is all most muster.I'd like to think we could have changed that with a YES vote but that's probably fanciful thinking too.Was watching breakfast TV this morning on ITV and they serve up xmas pressie ideas that most can't afford, Victoria Secret news and Taylor Swift, the chance to win a car (if you text them-another secret tax on the poor and stupid) and Philip Scofield. What the masses want, the masses get.

This 84 day rule, they tried it on with me and my wife at the beginning of the year.My sister in law lives with us, she's pretty severely disabled and was in hospital from the middle of January until the beginning of April...I think it ended up being 78/9 days. She's an adult, but gets treated (in some cases) as a child due to the severity of her requirements-she has the mental age of maybe a 12 year old.We were advised that the time was nearing that social work were going to have to consider her benefits. This after my wife had spend those 78 odd days either sleeping in a hospital chair or an inflatable mattress on the floor. The financial/mental stress was quite something, but we coped pretty well I reckon. This ruling wasn't down to bad hospital workers or bad social workers, but the framework they are required to work within or face the consequences from their bosses.

She had to be readmitted to hospital last week and got out on Monday, the concern from my wife was not only the well being of her sister, but how the government will see her:someone who needs a significant level of care pretty much all the time and someone who they should be looking to help as much as possible and support my wife who does far too much, or someone who is a constant burden to their balance sheet who'll never get better and be able to contribute financially and they consider withdrawing some of the essential financial help they give? We know The NHS are there to help, but what about the DWP? I'm not so sure and as things get progressively worse, I know my wife is very concerned.

There have to be rules but for fukk sake these rules shouldnt be written in tablets of stone and extreme cases like this [and Southfields] should be looked at on an individual basis and assessed seperately. It's easier to lump everyone in to the same boat though so let's just do that. Guy Fawkes had the right idea.

the UK is fecked as a country - priorities so way out of kilter I doubt it can be fixed but we do need to build a better future

Indeed. In the big picture, we can blame all those who have turned welfare into an unsustainable industry, funding ever more convoluted 'rights' and ever more unsustainable and self interested lifestyle choices. That's why we can't afford safety nets. And it's a ravenous, self consuming process, as the system itself encourages more of the unsustainable choices that destroy it.

Sadly there is far too much vested interest involve for this to be confronted for a long time yet. So we'll focus on populist rhetoric demanding that someone somewhere pays for it all; which ends up being the ordinary punter leading a responsible sustainable life.

It's going to end.
