Wee lad knocked over and badly hurt in Drylaw tonight about half six. Looks like he was hit by a youth riding a motorbike dangerously as part of a bigger group indulging in antisocial behaviour. Police asking for public to help. Wee lad in a bad way.

The Polis need to help themselves and the folk living in North West Edinburgh. This all happens in their doorstep and they do nothing about it, this is the result.

Whilst they pusrsue the no chase rule what can they expect? Feel sorry for the wee guy but as long as these criminals are protected there is no hope. Fuck the theiving scum, the police should be allowed to hurt them. They have learned nothing from their pal being killed and deserve much of the same.

Wish the wee fella a speedy recovery, hope he's alright. In all honesty what's the point of pursuing the cants? Even if you catch them it's a slap on the wrists :banger:

Updates say boy was using the green man and the motorbike ran the red light, hitting him before driving off and leaving him. The chances are it's underage, stolen, to add to a string of offences. Police have seemingly gone to a number of addresses overnight. They will have the usual suspects in their mind.

The chances of someone doing the right thing about this must be slim. Not that it matters one bit, later reports say the lad is ten. Serious hip and leg injuries.

I hope first and foremost the innocent victim makes a full recovery.

There was quite a Facebook spat over the lad that died around a year ago, over the theft of the motorbike that ultimately killed him if I remember rightly as I'm sure its not there now.

Interesting the criticism of the police above, knowing some of the police in the area they are as frustrated as everyone locally who has to suffer the consequences of the anti social behaviour.

This might be a watershed moment, as I'm sure a "risk assessment" has been done and decided that a no chase policy protects the public. Incidents like this obviously create a different view on that.

I wonder if the police will have the same no chase policy for the vigilantes that are being called for on Facebook?

Like drug dealers the police know who these wee shites are and where they live. I almost laughed when I saw a photo of them on the bike with a request if anyone knows who they are get on touch.

The police should be harassing them 24 hours a day. Having said that that would only leave donut time for the vigilantes to get them.

I also agree our court system is ineffective when dealing with stuff like this.

The wee felly apparently has a broken hip and leg. That will take a long while to heal and the consequential missing school could have major implications for the rest of his life.

I think people are just fed up with how ineffective the police are in regards to all this, granted that they must be frustrated with it too. In reality the whole of our policing is pretty crap at dealing with the sort of community stuff that matters like house breaking, anti social behaviour, drugs etc. Mainly because of the leniency in sentencing.

The amount of bike thefts in Edinburgh is ridiculous at the moment and the wee scrotes are getting more brazen all the time. I don't know what the solution is, but more of them coming off the bikes would help.

I guess we all have to ask ourselves if we would 'turn in' a friend or family member in a similar situation? Friend of mine was killed many years ago, everyone knew who had done it, they even had Donald Findlay as their defense lawyer which to me screams guilty. Trial was heading to a not proven when a relative finally told authorities the truth.

Its similar with things like child abuse or domestic abuse - how often do people know or strongly suspect a relative but don't go to the authorities. Same I guess with a lot of the terrorists...

There's a non pursuit policy for a reason. If the polis go after them in real time there's a high chance somebody's going to get killed, whether it's the rider or some innocent, because these fuckers will stop for no-one. When that happens all hell lets loose on the polis because somebody has to get the finger of blame pointed at them and the cops pay out big compensation.
As is most likely the perpetrators will be known so it's much safer for the general public if it's an early morning chap on the door rather than a high speed pursuit.
So it's all very well for those upstanding residents to go off on one at the polis and the wee scrotes responsible for not stopping or catching them but i wonder how many of them are prepared to grass them up when there's nae Lee Wallace around?
