NHS go full Orwell

“A large majority of people that have been pregnant or have given birth identify as women. We can include intersex men and transmen who may get pregnant by saying ‘pregnant people’ instead of ‘expectant mothers’.”

No doubt the same kind of people who get in a tizzy over the Donald's alternative facts. The funny thing with this kind of demented nonsense is it's so demented it can't even maintain itself over two sentences; apparently we can have pregnant men, but the term mother is tied to biology...how transphobic is that?

googled it and I think its from BMA guidance rather than NHS policy but none-the-less when did identifying as a woman become a thought crime? I doubt using the term woman is an issue for trans or intersex folk, this is very clunky, dehumanising and the opposite of what common sense should determine.

As far as I can gauge, the thought crime is associating the condition of having the biology to carry a baby, with 'womanhood'. What I find baffling is that within the space of two sentences, womanhood is de-coupled from biology but it is implied that motherhood remains biologically rooted; and both of these are in relation to the objective reality of 'persons' carrying and giving birth to other persons.

This is genuine post truth. To use this context as a reference, most of trump's alternative facts are akin to claiming to be pregnant when he's not; mere untruth, as it were. This stuff seeks to take away the ability to talk and think about pregnancy and what it is; post truth.
