Womens World Cup

Good luck Scotland, had a wee look at going over for it but couldn’t manage, tough group we’re in.

Enjoyed the game last night, France look handy but was hard to really gauge against S Korea I think?

Roll on Sunday..

5 Glasgow players and only 2 Hibernian in our squad? Something something twas ever thus.

All the best to them, even if they lose every game (which is unlikely) no doubt they will put in just a wee bit more effort for the badge than the men have been doing of late.

France look good.
Not good enough mate...just watching Good morning Britain. The mother or some relatives of one of the England players came out and said "I think were going to win this tournament I really do."
You'd think they'd just steam rollered over Scotland instead of the hard fought and close game it really was. The English like putting a bit of pressure on themselves.
Maybe something along the lines of " It was a hard game but I think we can go far "
Talk about pride before a fall, no wonder they win f all!!!
Anyway it's Monday morning and I've got my grumpy head on and Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid are doing my head in.
By the way enjoying the Women's football
Good points Good tackling
Great effort
End to end
Patriotic singing (Scotland &Italy)
Good goals
Better looking than the men(especially the jambos, ugly gits)

Bad points
Too many miss placed passes
Need to slow down just a little to pick out a team mate.
Singing from the crowd too high pitched (makes my ears bleed)
Disappointed the don't swap shirts after the game (but that's me being sexist)
Great effort Scotland and Italy hope we progress.

I’m surprised it’s that many - there’s no money in Scotland so all the best players gravitate to the money elsewhere.

Hibs have lost an enormous number of players to full time football down south and elsewhere. It's good for the National side that so many players are now full time but it's going to take its toll on the Hibs conveyor belt. The Hibs academy is creaking at present due to so many players going up to the first team to replace the likes of Abi Harrison who isn't even in the Scotland squad. Next will be Napier. She's now got an agent so watch this space. Unfortunately, the noisy neighbours are recruiting well and they're stronger at the younger ages now. They're about to get promoted to the top league and they're investing heavily. I think for the first time they're about to put pressure on Hibs. We need to regroup or the success of recent years could be a thing of the past very soon...

What a total mess that was by the officials.
Clearly onside pass by Scotland gets ruled offside, no checking of VAR, Japan go straight up the park and score the opener.
Japanese player clearly dives for a penalty, no checking of VAR.
Japanese player deliberately stops the ball dead with her arm inside the box, illegal under the old rules never mind the new ones, no checking of VAR.

The penalty in the England game was annoying but those are the rules now, this was just a farce.

England get a harder game than they expected.Argentine defense very solid, goalie excellent, pity they had nothing in the last 3rd.

We needed England to win. If they hadn't we'd have no chance of progressing in 3rd place.

Surprised at the poor quality of this. Not comparing them to men either. I read the USA world champions were pumped 5-2 by a U-15 Academy team over there which sounds about right from what I have seen.

Believed the hype about Scotland too and was expecting the likes of Little and Cuthbert to be standouts based on their club achievements. Anonymous is being kind.

Anonymous, I'm afraid, is being totally off the mark as far as Erin Cuthbert is concerned. The lassie has been a standout with the Scottish supporters here in both games. The amount of tracking back she does is incredible - even more so given her age. She is a wonderful player who is having absolutely no kind of quality ball delivered to her to allow her to show her own capabilities. She is constantly urging on her team-mates, and does not indulge in any kind of reproach to any of them, especially when they are having a hard time, such as the drubbing Nicola Docherty was getting against Engerland. It is not because of Erin Cuthbert being off her game that Scotland finds itself in the position it is, because if we had a couple more with her will-to-win we would be some team; no, it is a paying the opposition too much respect that has cost us dear. And, oh aye, a blatantly obvious consistent lack of consistency at penalties. But we march on to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, blistered feet 'n all.
One (slightly soured) footnote: wife and I found the hyping up of the local school kids to support Japan slightly annoying as they were being given wee headbands to wear to entice their support. Probably just my bad loser streak rearing its ugly head again.
One other (absolutely smashing) footnote: Joelle saw us in the crowd at Rennes and gave us a nice wee wave. Unfortunately, you can see the disappointment of not playing written all over the lassie's face. But she has done Hibs proud in getting here.

While I wish Hibs Ladies all the best the quality of football in this WC hasn't been anything to get excited about. Good luck though.

I don’t think I’ll see a finish like that again.

Reminds me of youth club days when games were finished bang on 90 to stop it all kicking off ?

That was more like I was expecting to see. Much better football being played and the big names stepped up to the plate - in the attacking third and with an end result. On the goals tally anyway. The referee had a howler and the photo I have just seen of the keepers positioning when the ball was kicked is another boot in the stanes/fandango.

That's Scotland though and just means the very few successes we have are celebrated more than other nations who take it for granted.

First game I’ve watch of the woman’s WC, be the last. I thought MLS football was bad. Scotland’s defending for the first goal was atrocious. Not once but twice did the players let the ball bounce rather than attack it. It’s pretty basic defending, don’t let the fucking thing bounce. First lass does it, second lass same thing, and then they have us outnumbered pouring forward.

Argentina made good subs, Scotland coach reacted way too slowly, then the shite ref and incompetent VAR put the final two nails in.

Funny how these decisions keep seeming to go in favour of the larger nations, not just against us but in general. Anyway if things stay this way the EPL and Euros should be a laugh to watch "highlights" of.

Although I think we were hard done by, we shouldnae be giving away a 3 goal lead. We Heartsed it!

As an advocate for VAR they've taken it too far.

The Scottish game yesterday was a shocker, no guarantee of the right result, not even close, tonight was not much better, USA v SWE.

I thought the styles of football tonight were interesting. For me SWE sorta played the men's European game while the USA were the daughters of the Soccer Mums. Basketball on a soccer field. High impact, high pressing on drugs!

Never watched all of the games last night though Chile were trying like fk.
Yip you've got to be careful with your celebrations after scoring or saving a penalty with var hanging over your head or you could look a right twat.
Thought var would be a good thing but not so sure now game is getting kinda sterile now. Think l might prefer the injustices and then spend the rest of the week moaning about it on the Bounce.
This keeping both feet on the line for penalties we're well.. if you're going to enforce that then the goalie is probably better positioned standing slightly behind the line, or add another line maybe in red say 6-12" in front of the goal line. Failing that just fuckin leave the game as it is..was!
As for the tournament I've really enjoyed it it's been fast, a bit too fast.
Plenty of good tackles, less rolling about like you've been shot than in the men's game and less diving.
Plenty of taking on defenders and less route 1 balls. Okay it's no nearly as good as the men's game but we have been playing it longer this shows with the number of miss placed passes and the ball being given straight back to the opponent.
It's been a good platform for the girls, good to see descent crowds and I'm sure it's heading in the right place.
Hard lines Scotland you threw it away helped by incompetent officials. By the way never saw any male officials?
Well still a few games to go, take us nicely up to the new season.
Forza Italia and GGTTH.

All the var official - 15 of them - are male. 10 worked on the Russia 2018 World Cup.

All 27 referees are women.

I think the main (but not only) issue is that the referees are a long long way from the standard required.

There's a job for them in the Scottish game then.
