Can anyone help with this ?
I have an external drive with photos on it i used with my Vista laptop . If i plug it into a machine running Windows 7 or 8 i can't open it (says it must be formatted) How can i transfer my pics to my new laptop ?

Would it not be an idea to save your stuff to a cloud server? If your hard drive crashes, you'll lose the lot otherwise

Thanks for the suggestions all :thumbgrin

i thought if you went ahead and just formatted it , that a windows folder with all the things you have just now is saved ,IE like your photos much as when you format a normal PC then you just open saved folder and move your photo's out as you wish

I don't follow you here? Format means all information is wiped.

For some reason the drive had lost the partition but managed to recover all of the photos . Took a while though
