Van Bronckhurst was on a hiding to nothing with Rangers.
They will still finish 2nd which is the best their current squad could do.
The real issues at Rangers are an aging run down squad. The only major fail at Rangers was the board when they failed to sell Kent and Morelos last summer and to compound that they have now lost another £4 million quid by sacking the manager.

For me the big picture is;
Van Bronckhurst managed Rangers to the Europa League Final last season and a poor run down squad into the Champions League group stages this season.
The Board have lost Rangers £20 million.

The truth is they went to the financial limit to stop 10 in a row and have been running everything down to pay it back ever since.
There finances are back under control but their team is as run down as Hibs were last season.
None of this was Van Bronckhursts fault.
He was on a hiding to nothing.

You may be right, but we don't know what power he had to change his squad this summer.

Surely if last season's relative success is down to him, then so is this season's failure - at least in part?

The writing was on the wall.
Gerrard knew and moved on.
They lost the Europa League final because they didn't have a centre forward with Morelos injured.
They then moved on two of their best players for £30 million. Aribo was a great player and they miss him badly.
This season the big thing was to steer them into the Champions League Group stage which he managed.
They started the season well but there was no resilience in their aging squad and that saw them face a similar fate to Hearts, brutal European kickings, injuries and league points dropped.
Like Hearts they will push on after the break.
Spineless sacking for me.

So GVB had no input into the squad at all? He was spineless for taking the job in the first place if that's the case.

Without knowing the details all I can comment on is what I have seen.
GVB got a massive chunk of money out of Rangers for a years work so the employer was the real loser.

The Huns getting sued for nine or ten million anaw, so the coffers won’t be as bulging with coin as they could have been.
Might not make a great difference but I’ll enjoy it anyway.

Cheap option, basically a caretaker. He'll be gone by the summer.
 
Oh well that's my Southgate idea knocked on the heid-until Beale fails.
