The visceral power of Sunshine on Leith

Regarding being overplayed. We're generally lucky to hear SOL handful of times at ER in a season. In fact it's probably alot less in recent times. Hearing it two weeks on the bounce is even rarer. A few of the players had never heard it before and had to wait a while after signing to experience it.

Remember a documentary on tv few years & were asked about sol. They stated they got idea for it when they were flying back from a gig, think it was Sweden, no matter, the plane was circulating around Edinburgh waiting for permission to land & as it banked over the Forth they saw a beam of sunshine breaking through the grey clouds shining down on Leith.

No. Repeat: Liverpool et al do YNWA EVERY GAME, and no one asks that question of them.
Aye, but we sing SOL post match, mainly v herts.
The other two times v the hun and celtic were for Ron Gordon's tribute/memorial
If it were to happen every game. do you think fans will stay to sing it after a loss or draw ?
It would lose its😍,if played every home game, imo.

I think I remember going through 3 managers maybe 4 if you include Maloney where we failed to win a game of importance and it was never played. Mental eh?

And thought to themselves, let’s write an anthem for the bibees and call it sunshine on leith 🤪

I know - another SoL thread. But I wanted to pick up something about the song that is really connecting with the wider public. In the last couple of weeks I've had loads of messages with links to us singing SoL after the Celtic and Hearts game, including from the US and Oz.

But what really brought it home to me was this week when I was in a taxi in London. The driver asked the usual who do you support question. I said not Rangers or Celtic as that's usually what the mean. I sure all here have experienced this.

But no. He had seen the clips of fans singing SoL and thought it was the best thing he'd seen. Wanted to go to Easter Road etc. He asked about the background to it which I gave.

I asked him what he liked about it? He said he'd never heard of the Proclaimers but had since listened on Spotify. He thought it was such a beautiful song but didn't understand how it became a football anthem. He loved the crowd singing it and the fact that it's a lovely song without a hint of badness in it.

I realised that we have something you can't buy. Something that connects with people beyond fans. Something amazing that we are associated with around the world. And it's organic. It's not part of a marketing strategy. The fans have turned it into a phenomenon. And it's a wonderful thing to be part of.
Haha what a coincidence, almost exactly the same thing happened to me on Wednesday. "Hibs? Oh you got that song haven't ya? Brilliant."

Article below has Hands OFF Hibs organisers belief that SOL had an effect on us and others (banks and STF) to ultimate victory over Mercer.
Sounds a bit romantic. But it did at the time raise emotions and help lift a community in its fight against the greed of Mercer.
An unaccompanied rendition, a la Villa Park,at close of play today will be wonderful 😍

Yes,returning from hols on daytime flights ,Its a great view of Leith and the City on that flight path.
You can also spot the sun (on a good day!) shining down on Martello Court from the plane, due that buildings height . ✈️
The twins could have penned "Sunshine on Muirhouse!" 😁
