Netflix's latest and most expensive series to date is due to launch soon. Not sure exactly when but the hype machine seems to be in full swing from today.

It's based in NY / The Bronx in the very early days of hip hop. Should appeal to anyone who likes Rubble Kings, Wild Style and that sort of thing.

Any excuse to post this classic...

Thanks H, that's the very programme for me :applause:

I posted this on here in 2008. The bit from 1m 54s remains one of the coolest things, and the two coolest wee dudes, on the Internet. You don't hear Xanadu and sweet lady's version of rappers delight everyday, either.

Just watched the trailor, will watch the 1st episode later but I *think* it could be too clinical, too Baz Luhrmann. Possibly like Vinyl, which had potential to be amazing but just felt a wee bit off. It's got an amazing list of advisors, though.

Oh ffs, there are indeed some worrying words in that piece, two of which are 'baz luhrman' and another two are 'magical realism'. Now worried we'll be treated to something campy and operatiC. Why oh why, would such a series be placed with him :banger:

Found these two docs while have a look about. Folk may have seen them before, but they're new to me. Not Hip Hop, but explains The Bronx.

Watched the 1st episode, which was more disco, but it's got potential to be good.

Me too, not sure how I feel about it yet. It's not what I expected style wise and I now understand EGB's reservations about Baz Luherman.

I didn't hate it but it did feel too much like Glee for comfort.

Very much like Vinyl, which was also OK. Just OK. Will stick with it tho.

Watched about 35 mins of the first episode and it reminded me of a cartoon, camper version of Fame that used to be on tv. Didn't watch it all the way thru mind you so it might have improved as it went on. Not for me tho'...found it annoying.

I hadn't read any of the previews etc so from this thread had been expecting it to be all about grimey kids in the projects. Turns out Luhrmann never intended it to be a documentary on Hip Hop hence the opening hour or so which was colourful and stylised and almost entirely about Disco apart from Fantastic's Pumas. I thought the segment when it went to Grandmaster Flash's gig/party was amaziballs. Of course its not realistic but at least it wasn't the nonsense of pretty much every scene in the utter pish that was Vinyl. * I do want to watch the next episode which couldn't be said after the 1st episode of Vinyl.

My wife thought the whole thing was incredible so perhaps the issue for most of us here on the bounce is that this isn't TV made for fanboys.

* I ended up watching the first 4 episodes of Vinyl as I begged for it to improve. Sadly every episode up to that point was a downward trajectory from the truly awful 1st episode.
