What a great run by Jack Draper into the Indian Wells final. Good chance tonight too. I don't think he's a replacement for Andy, but he is the closest we have to a possible slam winner.

He's had an unusual trajectory. His dad was the LTA CEO but he didn't really come through their system. He's been plagued with injuries and wears his heart on his sleeve about nerves. He also is one of that group of players for whom COVID lockdowns stunted his development. He wasn't ranked highly enough to play in the COVID time tournaments and so couldn't improve his ranking.

Good luck tonight.

Andreeva has just won Indian Wells woman's final at the age of seventeen! Her second masters 1000! Seventeen!

I haven't paid much attention to Tennis since Andy chucked in the towel.I used to play it up Meadowbank when I was a youngster. Now I probably couldn't name the top players unless Novaxx is still going. But no doubt I'll tune in to Wimbledon when it comes up.

Thought he was ok at one time till his true temperament came out racket smashing, moaning , bawbaggery . Nah 🤮

I actually think Fearnley ( edinburgh born ) has more chance of being the next british ( scottish ) star ahead of draper, better temperament as well 🤞👏👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

US college tennis is tough and there are a number of players from there making it on the tour. But two 1,000 finals in short order, one of which he won, is pretty good going for Draper. But good luck to them both.

Jacob fearnley ( edinburgh ) playing atm on tnt sports at the french open 👍
Playing well 5-3 up

Draper through to face Fonseca. Match of the third round. Fearnley against Norrie, who until this week had been in awful form.

Watching the french open on TNT ( used to be eurosport , another sporting event that you don’t get anymore for your TV license , added to golf, the grand national, the derby to name a few . Still we can watch, the great british sewing bee, alan carrs designer pish thing , british bake - off , all prime time viewing 😡ATM the only thing I watch on bbc is race across the world , probably works out at £15 - £20 quid a programme 😩

The ITV coverage was good, but TNT have strangled that. The Discovery App used to be good value, but that's over £30 for a month. Still Wimbledon will be on the BBC along with Queens and Eastbourne.

When the wind is a problem like tday why dont they just shut the roof 🤷‍♂️
There's a strong view that tennis is an outdoor sport and that players should deal with the elements. There's no way an outdoor match would be postponed because of the weather today. Obvious exceptions are rain and extreme heat (in Oz).

Well done Coco guaff and fair play also to sabalenka, the guy put up a great fight. Great scenes after with gauff letting all the ball kids lift the trophy 👏👏

Arnya was really disappointed she played so badly. I would say 60% of ger normal level 😢

I thought it was a great final but Sabalenka came over really badly in her post match interviews. I know she's hurting, but even so.
I’ve actually changed my mind about coco ( not the clown Before @hibbybilly chips in ) she’s a bit of a torn face like me but while I thought she would get gubbed she did well and comes across ok 👋👍

Some final @Archie, one of the best ever, some of Carlos’s shots near the end were phenomenal 👋👍🇪🇸
Fantastic. Two guys battering each other for over five hours. Both broken when serving for the championship.I thought it was Sinner's at the champions tie break. That's sport and why we love it. There's also something about a sport that's not timed that makes it different. Long matches can be a drag. This wasn't and,I think, makes the case for five set tennis at majors for men.

Probably the fittest guys in sports 🫩

Yip, close call probably, mibby marathoners and triathletes, def not footballers 🤣
I think the key issue with sports like tennis, triathlons, marathons and some cycling is that there is nowhere to hide, no one to spell you or a team to help you as in cycling. You are on your own. I know people can argue that tennis players get regular breaks. But in a five set match you might serve 150 times. And you still need mobility, speed and touch after five hours. Something you might have had to do six times in two weeks during a slam. It's quite something.

My biggest issue with tennis is that it tends to be a very middle class sport. It's expensive to join a club, municipal courts are dwindling and there's a real county set aspect to it. Same in the States. It's no coincidence that Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro both come from billionaire families.

Its not much but tour cyclists are part of a team, so work together at times 🤔

I think a grand tour team supporting the leader is absolutely critical. They go into it knowing that they can't win - indeed must not win except in the most extreme circumstances.

If you haven’t seen the interview of Martina Navtravtilovtrav ( that’s the pronunciation by a guy I worked with who couldn’t get the hang of it 🤣) by Amol Rajan on bbc last wednesday, worth a watch . I was never a fan but she’s been through a lot ( in her life )
