Not sure how to feel about this? On the one hand, I recoil -- it'll be full of guys about my age still wearing bucket hats doing scally cosplaying and crowing that they "knew Irvine back in the day." On the other, I'm a bit like, oh this might be quite good if only for the tunes and the fact that it's not the usual hipster speakeasy rebrand?

Thoughts?

Doesn't sound hugely like Leith bars of the 90s that I recall. Burberry would have been in one set and the art crowd in another at least in my recollection. That said its not entirely imaginary even if my memory is reliable - the city cafe was a bit like that to give one example.

Similar conflicts but ultimately fall down on the cringe side of the ledger. Pubs are in trouble, attempts to reinvent them by having come and see Liam Gallagher's jacket smack of desperation. The fundamentals are it's too expensive and the culture has changed. I see you guy from sub club in the weege is calling for a night time economy ministerial portfolio in govt (they have one in Oz) I'm not sure about that but something more systemic needs to change if the pub is to be saved

Ps I think it's hard to tell from the pitch, you'll either feel it or not when you go

On my travels Sunday to the Harp I past it and the Irn Bru outside was busy. Need to venture at some point I think

It’s an odd themed pub for the area as I remember it. It’s different but I would be surprised if it thrives. Are its regulars going to stick with it or will they cross the street and go to Wilkie’s.

I've only been there once, when I was 16 or 17.

It's never struck me as a welcoming bar although I'm sure all the folk that go there are brothers in arms.

Good luck to them.

In the 60’s and 70’s it was a bit a dive, in my illegal drinking days.

They were being encouraged to migrate to Wilkies, a decent pub imo. Have a wee soft spot for the ToS, had a few customers in there and always made to feel welcome, good for Cheltenham too. GJS pubs down to one now. More chemists than pubs….
