Spurs Warned

I will hear 1st hand on saturday if follow new rules, I doubt it very much.

Utter pish.

The club have Jewish roots and have had that used against them by opposition so they took the slagging and adopted it as their name. How the hell can that be seen as anti-semitic.

It would be like Celtic, or indeed Hibs, Dundee United or any other club up here with Irish/Catholic roots being called fenians by opposition and instead of getting angry saying "yes and you're point is caller?"

Speaking of the Arabs I suppose noone has decided that nickname is racist and complained...yet.

The test is really, if the subject were black and the word was '(I've used an racist word) racist' would it be acceptable...

I'd say 'no' but if you are calling yourself it then is it that bad.?

Look at Aberdeen, they've made light hearted baaanter out of their dodgy 'label'

The N word is never acceptable to any Black person ever. Nigga is a different though.

Didn't that difference simply come about because the accent of the "ghetto kids" just happened to cut off the r?

American Society decided that the term was bad because some people were using it as a pejorative, then decided to move it to being "the worst word in the world" and another arbitrary decision said "it's okay for black people to say it" and then the whole "aaah but nigga is totally different" side of it came in.

I'm sure black was probably used just as frequently, if not more so, as a pejorative term in the days of slavery and at the height of segregation, but you can't ban the word black it's kinda commonly used, so you ban the foreign/latin word for black that is also being used but doesn't cause as many issues to get rid of.

It is of course a fairly unique set of circumstances even amongst racist slurs.

One odd thing, "we" decided that contractions like Jap, Nip, (I've used an racist word) and in this case Yid are bad because they are easier to be said in a nasty tone but we accept Scot just as easily as Scottish, because our society decided it was okay.

Could take it into a long ramble about the meanings of words and how tone is usually more important than the word itself anyway but at the end of the day the majority rules.

If they try to clamp down on the Tottenham Yid chants then the majority involved will decided to draw a line somewhere and will either stop or continue and that will set what is "acceptable".

Cant they just chant "Front wheel skid" instead, or is rhyming slang an offence too.

There are parallels here with Scotland were 2 clubs are almost solely responsible for sectarianism but the police/authorities find it preferable to take action against other clubs who ae seen as softer targets.

In this case it is easier to bully Spurs than to take action against the vile sections of support at Chelsea et al who genuinely do set out to offend.

Kurt I agree, easier to punish spurs for chants/songs. But what I've read and heard is that the police are not reall interested.....far to much if a grey area.

anyways.

The Yid word/songs was sung like fook.

I asked my Jewish friend before match what his thoughts were.
He sings it himself and has no issue what's so ever, but admits the older gen (like his family) dont like it, understandably.

Spurs are consulting fans about this and aren't taking this bullying from the FA.

I'm not an expert on lahndan footie but have always taken the yids thing to be about spurs fans re appropriating an insult and therefore turning it back in the faces of the real bigots (see also Ajax). Strikes me as similar to the phenomena around queer or less salubriousy 'nigga' (I say that because of a whie new set of negative connotations. It further strikes me that this sort of thing is generally celebrated by those in a huff with spurs fans. It all smacks of classism to me, even as a confirmed non class warrior.

Tottenham fans not giving a fuck and singing what they want :077:
