Although there may be a hint of truth to this, the timing is far too suspect.
I think it is fair to say that he has been influenced into stirring up some press in order to publicise the autobiography.
Ferguson is the most recent example of this, though the subjects were milder than racism!
When Taylor gave Beckham the captaincy, it raised a lot of questions, but they were about Beckham rather than racism.
Perhaps if Campbell had raised this issue at another time, it could have been given serious food for thought.
Campbell was one of the many excellent English centre-backs in recent decades, but I feel that Beckham justifiably maintained the captaincy through most of Campbell's England career; there would've been no budging Shearer either.
It'll be interesting to see if the former managers/players respond to this, but regardless of this, Beckham was a fantastic captain.
He may have a point, but I think it becomes moot with the way he has gone about this. Perhaps I'm being cynical and this is
exactly how he wanted to go about it, to garner a larger audience, but I doubt it.
Who were captains ahead of him?
Sounds bitter and desperate for an excuse why he didn't get to captain them. Poor show.
Shearer was regular captain before him, then Campbell was captain for a couple of games before Beckham got the captaincy.
Beckham was kept on as captain, by Sven, for the rest of Campbell's England career.
