Apparently homeless asylum seekers who have their asylum claims approved are being moved to the top of the council house waiting list in Edinburgh.
Surely cannae be true when youve got local families like EH17 who have been bidding for years.

Surprise they've only just figured this out.
Sure I posted a year or so ago, no social or council housing for another 3 or 4 years.

I'm private, going to be stuck in private forever because it's impossible to get something, or save for a mortgage while paying these prices.
 
There an empty dancer housing association hoose up from me been lying empty now for nearly 3 years.

One level hoose with a garden. I've tried to find out who actually owns the place but it's a 'nowt to do with us' scenario.

It's not about 'waiting time' on a list. It's needs based. If their claims have been approved and they are homeless then I'd expect them to have a high priority.
Jimmy may not be in the best of housing but at least he's not roofless.
'Local connection' is also a thing of the past.

Weird that @EH17 Jimmy knows of a Housing Association house empty for 3 years though. Very strange.
 
Aye squatters rights. It's a new build as well. Well 20 yearor so.

Brilliant hoose for a family.

Bus stop outside. 5 mins walk to the first shops, scotmid and the second shops.

5 mins to Craigour primary school.

The SNP are not the ruling party in Edinburgh council. It’s one of your darling unionist parties.
Feel free to change the Daily Express/Mail style thread title whenever you like though. 👍

And ive been a supporter of independence since about 1973 so whatever party it is its not one of MY darling unionist parties

I think its a disgrace, anywhere in the UK , if people not from this country, and not long arrived, get priority housing ahead of people born here, who have been on waiting lists for years.

Its disgusting, and a scandal.

I know 2 folks out here in Midlothian, who have a council house, who dont live there; they bide with their other halfs. (both Scots, white born and bred)
 
When I lived over in Jersey the folk who stayed i Jersey State accomodation had to give up their 2/3 bedroom houses and downsize when their bairns got aulder.

That way families could then get the bigger hooses.

Are the rules not broadly similar in England?

There is a local connection rule in England but some local authorities don't apply it. I'm sure I also read a while ago, temporary residence, as could mean someone seeking asylum, can count towards a local connection.

With that in mind I'd suggest the rules up here are slightly tighter than the English ones. But SNP bad and it's all Nicola Sturgeons fault and all that!

Pretty much the same rules; one by the morris dancers and another written in tartan ink.
 
In a written submission to the UK Parliament last year, the Scottish Refugee Council said the abolition of the priority need test in 2012 had led to people from other parts of the UK travelling to Glasgow to access homelessness services.

It said Scotland’s differential policy on both priority need and local connection had led to “unprecedented pressure on the city’s housing stock”, with significant numbers of single males coming from cities such as Belfast, London and Manchester.

It's all Labour's fault 😆

They've been doing what the incompetent torys ignored all the time they were in office. That is having a system in place to deal with asylum cases in anything resembling a competent way. Not dealing with legitimate asylum cases created a massive backlog. It was a time bomb that the Labour government would have to deal with. And they, the incompetent thieving torys and other right wing nut jobs, could blast Labour for.

Labour has put in a system where asylum claims are being dealt with. Because of the huge backlog, created by the bastard torys, there are now overwhelming numbers of legitimate asylum claimants looking for somewhere to live.

This should have drip fed into the system over the last 15 years+.

It's not Labour's fault. It's not the SNPs fault.

It's the feckin torys, including the incompetent torys who scurried off to reform and restore, who were so busy thieving from the public purse they had no time for other government business.

The only money to be made from asylum seekers was to hive out looking after them to private companies like GS4 who welcomed the opportunity to pack them in squalid accommodation while making multi million pound profits and donating large sums back to their mates in the tory party.

The tory press are taking you for mugs.

The only thing I know Jack is that neither myself or my lassie will ever get a council hoose.

Even when the twin died my lassie was told that she would need to go into homeless accommodation first before they could be considered for a council hoose.
