Ship dislodged in Leith

Incredible scenes of the ship Petrel in dry dock in Leith, lurching over from its holding.

Sadly, there are multiple casualties.

It is incredibly windy in Edinburgh today. I was almost blown away on my morning dog walk up towards Arthur's seat

Must have been some wind tae blow that over, or did something else happen?

If it's in dry dock it will have been stayed by large wooden sleepers( I think theres some in the foreground of the picture)
Usually very safe, but the weather conditions may well have something to do with it listing.

The sleepers are what it sits on all along the length of the keel . Further up the hull there are wooden 'shores ' like telegraph poles that are wedged in against the steel frames of the ship from either side. They should be tied to the ship's hand rail at one end and secured with wooden wedges at the wall of the dry Dock.
I used to be a shipwright and have done loads of dry docking never seen one fail like in the picture. Like you say they are usually safe as.
My money is on wedges not being tightened up or shores put in wrong position. I bet its the poor buggers who were in dry dock working on it who are worst of the casualties poor souls.🙏

Seen all the emergency services rushing down this morning while on the school run, 25 injured seemingly, people working under and in board the boat, hopefully all will be OK.

Hope everybody affected is OK, must admit this quote in the BBC article made me chuckle. Might be the Scottishest thing I've ever read.

"It's very scary - it just makes you evaluate everything," he said. "No one goes to work to be involved in any kind of accident.

"We all want to go home for our mince and tatties to our wife and kids so I feel for anyone who is injured, and their family."
