Scottish Premiership Transfers & Contracts Summer 2024

Gerald Taylor is 'close' to joining Hearts, according to reports in Costa Rica.
The international right back is currently with Deportivo Saprissa in his homeland, but reports in Central America say that a deal to join Hearts is close.
Steven Naismith is in need of a right back with Dexter Lembikisa returning to Wolves after his loan spell ended and Nathaniel Atkinson the only recognised senior option on the books in that position.
The deal is likely to be a loan with an option to buy.

That transfer took a while to be confirmed.
The Family and myself both posted it up on this thread on 31st May.

As expected a very slow start to the window today.
Think players and managers will be back from their holidays by Monday and the transfers will accelerate from thereon.
Aberdeen manager doesn't start until next week which is a good indicator that preparation for all Scottish teams will be along the same lines.

Bit more detail

Striker Peter Ambrose has signed from Ujpest.

The Nigerian forward hit 10 goals in 34 matches for the Hungarian side last season and will compete with Bojan Miovski and Ester Sokler for a starting berth

Only one of em has a huge rebuild to do though. I wish we'd make some signings. I know it's early but we can't miss out
No team other than Rangers has so far signed players Hibs supporters would have wanted other than Killie getting Findlay on loan again.
We are looking for a half dozen starters and a squad player at left back so will probably sign and move on a player a week for the next 7 weeks.

A bit more on this transfer to Aberdeen which looks to be a good signing.

Disappointed Damien Duff claimed that Shelbourne were powerless to stop Gavin Molloy from leaving for Aberdeen.
The young central defender became Jimmy Thelin’s first signing, after agreeing a three year deal. Duff confirmed that Aberdeen triggered a release clause to land their highly-rated 22-year-old.

The first signing in days in our league

Michael Efete has signed a new two-year deal to remain at Ross County.
The former Grimsby Town man signed a short term Staggies deal in February and has agreed to return.

Hearts confirm Penrice too

According to Sun journalist Scott Burns Aberdeen have made a move for St Johnstone keeper Dimitar Mitov.
Mitov still has one year left on his contract but it apparently contains a six-figure release clause which Aberdeen are looking to trigger.

Great move. I had hoped he'd be our number one target. Definitely the best available in this country. Both The Sheep and Gunts yet again are ahead of us in recruitment of available have done it in our league players.

Maybe we weren't interested. Possibly better out there?

Mitov is similar to Dabrowski, great shot stopper but his distribution isn’t up to scratch.
Will Dennis is a better overall keeper so i'm hoping he is coming our way.
The other possible from Bournemouth is Paulsen. Don't know how good he is as a shot stopper but he is top notch with his feet. A cool customer.

The shot stopping is all that matters.
Having good feet is nice and all, but it's no the important part of his job.

We shouldn't turn any keeper away because he can't pinpoint passes, much rather they just punt and make saves.

A (yet another) ridiculous signing.
How was he a "ridiculous" signing.
A 20 year old prospect signed on a free on low wages after being released by a high level club.
Under 21 international player who as a 21 year old last season was player of the year on loan at QOS.
Still has a chance of reaching our level if he continues to develop as he did last season.

I've always been fairly optimistic about him.

All these players on so called "low wages" all adds up. And out of interest what is the "low wage"?

I'll bet you any amount of money you want for charity or not that he'll never play for our club?

And if he was as good as you say he was last season he'd not be heading to Coleraine.

I do admire you being so adamant that we operate some slick, efficient recruitment at our club that yields results but you're spectacularly wrong. And it's why last season we were brutally bad and Sir David Gray faces a season ahead saddled with its legacy.

I don't think he'll ever play for Hibs either. 21 shown the door when we're not exactly bursting with CB's tells its own story.

Was worth the gamble though.

Was signed for the development squad that the club failed to find games for

The question is more what level he ends up playing.
Without watching him regularly it is impossible for supporters to accurately benchmark his future level.
Hell, without even watching any young player at Hibs you could guess they won't make it at our level and be right more than 95% of the time so the bet your offering has no value.

And if he was as good as you say he was last season he'd not be heading to Coleraine.
What standard are Coleraine? I would guess Scottish Championship which is a step up from where he was last season. No point in sending him somewhere he won't play. If he doesn't play he won't develop and our coaches won't be able to benchmark his current level

The highlighted section you have made up yourself
and the reason we finished in 7th last season was predominately down to the manager not playing a system to suit the players he had.
Should have easily finished 5th whatever he did.

I've no idea what money our players are on beyond the broadest "more than X, less than Y" sense. But generally I'm less worried about signing young inexperienced players as a punt than signing prime years players for cash money as a punt. Tavares will have set us back infinitely less than McKirdy and has offered us more, as miserable as that comparison might be - but seems to induce a lot more dismay in some folk.

McClelland is another young lad who won't have cost the earth and whether he leaves or kicks on, it's a rounding error compared to some of the wages we'll have had going out. Mueller, McGeady, Le Fondre, McKirdy - between those contracts we'll have spent a dozen McClellands for not much more return, and *potentially* much less

Thanks. You've no idea what his wage is/was.
