Scottish Labour

After the ousting of Corbyn down south I suppose it was inevitable his man in the Scotch colony would find his traditional Yorkshire flat cap on a shoogly peg.

Having led the party to 5th, with less than 10% of the vote, in the pointless European elections last year surely more of the same will mean its almost pointless Labour putting up any candidates in next years Scottish elections.

I see Neil Findlay is defending him........ if Scottish Labour wanted a 'lefty leader' I always felt he would have made a better fist of it than the bobbing budgie.

Unless they are going to stand him down, and the next leader is going to take them in a different direction then nothing will really change for them.

I think the Scottish labour leadership just cannot see what is in front of their eyes - they are positioned between indy and the tories, and the gap is shrinking by the day. Supporting a referendum, and not indy itself would seem a reasonable stance to give them something to move forward on.

It would seem to me that Kier won't allow that.

Makes no difference who is the leader of Labour in Scotland just now. Whether he or she is left wing or right wing. A proper leader who has presence and talks with authority might be listened to, respected and liked but the reality is Labour are an absolute irrelevance in Scotland.

I am sure you will enlighten us all as to why this came about Smurf.

Findlay was on the money today, absolutely spot on accusing the right-wingers of ‘plotting and front-stabbing’ driven by manoeuvres over list selection placings in the proportional representation voting system.

As was Leonard today when he said...
"It is deeply disappointing that disgruntled MSPs who never supported my leadership would choose the day when the Scottish Government finally accepted a Labour policy demand of ten years – for a National Care Service – to try and wage an internal war.

I am leading Scottish Labour into the 2021 elections on a platform of building a National Care Service, establishing a quality Jobs Guarantee Scheme and reviving Scotland’s economy with a Green New Deal.

If any party representative thinks an internal faction fight is more important than this agenda, they will have to answer to the party members and the voters whom we serve."

I am only surprised that he is surprised that Scottish Blairites would not ape the Chicken Coups that their counterparts in Parliament attempted in 2015 and 2016 which had a massively disruptive effect. Starmer has given them several green lights to do this recently.

Better Together. Gordon Brown was correct to have played little part in it warning of its consequences. Looking back an epic branding cock up campaigning with the Tories in such a negative campaign.

I suspect though that you'll have some anti Blair POV with respect to the demise of Labour in Scotland. I'd suggest election results suggest otherwise.

The coup continues, as the Blairites seek to purge any semblance of socialism from the party, fully backed by the establishment. As a disaster for working class people takes place in our society, hey that's a great idea let's become more like the Tories!

The disastrous decision was advanced and championed by Blair , Darling and their right wing aclolytes in the Labour Party in Scotland and MSP's, to join the Tories on a platform campaigning for a No vote in the Scottish Independence referendum, the very same hacks who are behind this attempted Chicken Coup today. The left including myself warned against this from day one and the inevitable disasterious consequences. I warned Leith MP Mark Lazaravich to his face against this utter madness, which he dismissed. He lost the decades Labour held seat of Leith to the SNP. I reported this on the Bounce pre Referendum and him losing the seat.
Less you forget it was Uber Blairite Jim Murphy and his Deputy Kezia Dugdale who led the party to the 2015 disaster in which it lost 40 of its 41 seats. Not a 'lefty' in sight.
The same right wing players are now trying to rewrite history, pointing the finger at Leonard.
Smurf regarding Brown's role.
"Gordon Brown was correct to have played little part in it warning of its consequences."

He must have had a change of mind. At the last Better Together rally.....
"Amid criticisms that the Better Together campaign has turned off voters by being relentlessly negative, the rally at a community hall close to Glasgow city centre was carefully designed to provide positive images for television on the final day of the campaign. Brown spoke in front of campaigners holding banners that said: Love Scotland Vote No. The comedian Eddie Izzard compered the event and the leaders of the three main UK parties in Scotland, plus the Better Together leader Alistair Darling, were piped in."

You are absolutely right in what you say Jock.
The Witch Hunt started as soon as Starmer was elected. Filling his opposition front bench with the very same people running to the MSM attacking Corbyn in public for 5 years. Then the success of Starmers preferred choice for the position of General Secretary, the most powerful position in the Party, David Evans, a Blairite figure who has gone on record as being opposed not just to an expansion of grassroots democracy, but of any democracy at all within the party.
Members with decades of membership have been suspended with threat of expulsion and get this, they are not told what they are being accused of or by whom.
Members will not take this lying down. There is no way the likes of John Dunn will roll over to Starmer and his flunkies. I have known John for over 30 years as his response to his letter from them shows brilliantly (which kindly included a phone number for the Samaritans). I thank the splendid Jewish Voice for Labour for the article....

Left-wing Labour MSP Neil Findlay also hit out at Leonard's critics: “The same people who are demanding @LabourRichard resigns are the ones who told us that Better Together was a huge success story for Labour and that Jim Murphy was the salvation of the Party - they have been repeatedly wrong and are wrong again - it’s treachery with a snarl.”

Forward less than 24 hours and right wing Shadow Cabinet Minister enters stage right.
The Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Shadow member for the Cabinet tells MSM that “I think he needs to consider his position and do what he thinks is right for Scotland and for Scottish Labour.”

She of course has form, never off the TV , writing scathing critisisms of Corbyn in bastions of the free press such as the S**, Daily Mail, Telegraph etc and one of the organizers of the failed Chicken Coups.

It is utterly inconceivable that she has done this without Starmers approval.

Leonard should not resign or be bullied. If the guy does succumb to the pressure from both side of this Labour Party axis, Jackie Bailey, would step in as she is Deputy Leader. Really.
However my money would be on Murray/Starmer clone Daniel Johnson, South Edinburgh MSP, smart talking right winger who resigned yesterday, being the LP beaurocrats choice.

He wears nice suits and keeps his hair tidy. That's swung it for me.

:hilarious:
But surely that is the criterion by which we choose all of our politicians? The cut of their jib?
Exactly the reason we, as bairns, used to follow James Hoy in the 1950 and 1951 elections, singing:

Vote, vote, vote for Mr Hoy!
Who's that knocking at the door?
If it's Michie and his wife,
Take a poker and a knife
And you won't see Michie any more!
Shut the door!

How times have changed.

G, You’ve shared your politics openly on the Bounce and fair play. They aren’t the same as mine but you are pretty steadfast in your beliefs which I respect.

But.....the Labour Party is fucked.....They will be lucky to survive next May at Holyrood and are a busted flush for Scottish votes at Westminster at this time and for the foreseeable. Old Labour really has gone with the pillage of industry 30 years and more back. The demographic has dwindled. Likewise the quality of politician has evaporated.

I heard Richard Leonard this morning on the radio and he sounded pitiful. Donald Dewar, John Smith and Robin Cook would be spinning in their graves hearing this guy. He needs emptying regardless of who started the coup because he’s shite as a leader.

I drastically hope and pray for Independence and the SNP are my route to this. Interestingly I was a card carrying member up until the exams fiasco a few weeks back where I resigned from the party. Will I always vote for them? Unlikely, if we get Indy. That for me is the opportunity for the Scottish Labour Party to become relevant and electable again.

If Richard Leonard can’t see he’s a failure and have the humility to move along, he’s doing more untold damage to the almost non existent Labour Party image.

THIS!! Once in control of Labour why has the left never put forward a credible leader? There's plenty for a credible Labour leader to go after with respect to the SNP Government. Like Corbyn at Westminster Leonard is hopeless.

Scottish Labour, and Labour in general, have shown their true colours too often.
Backing illegal wars, supporting trident, all the better together shite.
People are daft, but we ain't stupid. We can only be conned so much. They have an awful lot of work to do to win back the Scottish vote, which was so loyal to them.

He's a twat.

Do you mean like these utter imposters?
Good news piece in the Independence supporting The National.

Neil Findlay's email to MSP's sums it up as does the ASLEF train drivers spokesperson ( who as an aside is a season ticket holder at ER, not that that has anything to do with it)

Richard should have called out the resignation of James "the lights are on, but no one is home" Kelly and cheered good riddance to one of the thickest people on earth, that would have made him more popular!
